LOL I will lower it if/when i feel like it. God forbid I only spend 5k in mods for one season hahah.
I ended up ordering a Dinan rear swaybar and decided to replace all of the mounting brackets and endlinks as well. They are on the way. I might tackle all of the front suspension bushings this weekend. The clutch disc was not the worst I have seen but was not good at all. The flywheel was smoked really bad. It drives 10x better already. I am pumped for the swaybar upgrade and bushings as well. Oh also doing sinkdrains as well but I am going to paint them black. YAY!
Doing the clutch was not too bad at all although it ended up being about a 13-15hr job due to the amount of things I was doing and how much shit was jacked up from the previous owner.
Is this low enough for you queerbags or do I need to order coilovers instead? I am having a hard time deciding between koni+springs or kw or pss9’s. I do not want to keep dumping huge money into this car as I am deff buying a snky fast whip in a few months.
Pictured is dinan springs with koni yellow’s
springs and shocks for sure
Any good reasons? I am not too familiar with suspensions at all. had coilovers on my last car but never adjusted them. Just wanted the adjustable shocks. I think I want the car slammed pretty hard though if I am going to do it. I was considering picking up one of the cheaper coilovers like the KW V1 can be had for under $1400. Shit I just found the pss9 for $1700
well, if you don’t cheap out on the coilovers, they are a good investment. You don’t really seem like the “practical” type, but it’s a street car. I just don’t see any real need for expensive coilovers on a street car. Your choice though. Clearly GOOD coilovers will perform better than a spring/shock combo.
Me and practical LULLLLZZZZ Yes this car is my daily and I am not sure but I might drive it in the winter as well. I am concerned with performance but ride quality and stance is important. I would snatch the shock/springs but I think I want it lower. I do not plan to do an more real modding until after i buy a second “toy” though. I hope
I’m thinking the KW is the best choice out of those. They have a killer reputation for quality and ride comfort.
So if this is my daily should i go with the V1 or V2 i have basically ruled out V3 for my needs. I think I will end up grabbing the V2.
i have kw v3’s in my s4 and i <3 them. by far the nicest coilover system i have ever owned.
Ok so i have a few updates and observations.
- Changing the clutch, trans mounts, fluid, shifter made the car drive like a different car. Sooooo much smoother and solid feeling now. ugh so happy especially no more clutch chatter.
- I also changed the spark plugs, and fuel filter and both were original. My old mpg avg was about 14mpg. I reset it about 300 miles ago and now am seeing an avg of 18.5mpg.
- THE CAR RIPS! When I lay it down in first from a roll I am ripping up the tires bad and just annihilating them between shifts.
- I am really pumped to get back to the 1/4 mile. On the old REALLY shitty clutch, plugs, fuel filter it went 13.5 @104.75mph. If I can get it to a 12.9 @108 or better i will be more then happy with stock sedan. I might need to add a tune and intakes to meet the goal.
That sounds about in line with the Maint. my boss did on his. He actually bought it new and said it felt like new at his 100K mark with all the new parts.
He also did thicker bars front and back and said it really kept the car planted well. He’s a BMW driving school instructor, so I’m guessing he knows what he is talking about.
x…
You are a moron if you think a car will ride worse with coilovers, remember people like to do things the proper way not the ghetto way, which apparently you like to do if you think cars are worse than stock if lowered.
Motons or bust…
Now but I still have KWv3 sitting in my apartment waiting for me to finish gathering parts like LCAs and what not.
I think I am going to grab some KWv2’s
I have upgraded rear DINAN bar going on this weekend. From what I gather people running larger rear tires they suggest the rear bar only. I also have to install the powerflex control arm and thrust arm bushings up front. They felt great on my buddies and really give the front a solid feel. I hope I still love the car as much at 100k!!!
Why the 2s over the 3s? I haven’t heard much about the 2, but only hear great things about the 3.
Well the 3’s basically seem to be more adjustable and I do not think I will ever use the functionality. Hell I was just going to get V1’s but I would like somewhat adjustable shocks as well.
i think the v2’s offer height and dampening but do not offer a rebound adj.
Word same as my last set of coilovers and I was more then happy.
He actually bought it new, it was one of the first M5s delivered. Also it’s only driven 6 months out of the year.
