Ice Skating @ Delaware Park?

Driving by on 198 today I noticed that some snow was cleared away on Hoyt Lake. Does anyone know if the general public is allowed to just jump out there and skate? I may bring a shovel down and clear more away if I can do so without getting hassled.

Paging the North Buffalonians.

Saw a load of people playing ice hockey on it on Saturday afternoon.

I don’t see how they could give you shit. I have that drill if you want to measure it for yourself.

Yeah I’m not seeing how it could be a problem either. I’m sure it’s safe, but I might borrow that bit just to check as much of the ice as possible.

I didn’t know that liquid in Delaware Park froze. I know it’s not water.

Some buddies from school had some shinny going on this weekend, my friend brought out his drone. Fun was had.

I say hit it up. No one will give you shit.

Awesome. Definitely going to hit it up. Thanks, gents.

Looks sweet!

Does your friend want to film a few local base jumps? Is it a quad or hex?

Video title says it’s a DJI Phantom so it’s a quad. I only know because I’ve been seriously looking into getting a quad copter and getting into FPV flight.

Girl scout cookies delivered via drone?!

Maybe by next year.

Yeah they’re not even very expensive… I’m sure someday I will buy one just to mess around with…

I should have access to one of these soon. I would think that if the weather is good enough for you to jump, it will definitely be good enough for these to fly.

I could certainly ask him, and I think he may be very interested. He’s a super talented designer/video guy, he just needs some inspiration from time to time.

He also has access to some primo equipment. I’ll shoot him a text.

Check this video out he did of our college alumni get-together. http://vimeo.com/73052528

I was out walking on it the other day. It was solid and there was 30+ people playing hockey out there.

Ice reports are 14"-18" at the small boat harbor. I imagine hoyt lake would have a similar amount of ice, aside from wherever the drains outlets are.

The Buffalo River upstream of the Ohio Street lift bridge was measured by me as 4-10 inches, depending where you measure.

There’s a lot more flow there than in the small boat harbor. I don’t think Hoyt Lake moves quite as fast or moves the same volume of water as the Buffalo River.

Yeah, the basic quad isn’t expensive. It’s when you start getting serious about pushing FPV out to 2+miles it gets expensive with video receivers and transmitters, viewing goggles and all that stuff.

When I do it I’m going drone the shit out of Amherst.
