Ignition Boxes

i’m looking for an ignition box. I’m leaning towards a MSD Digital6.

What is your favorite, and why? MSD, Mallory, Crane, ACCEL

any bad experiences? i’ve read that a 6A box, and MSD coil will literally burn through a standard cap/rotor.

i had the MSD 6al Box & coil on my truck and no issues at all for the 2 years it was on…

I had the MSD 6 box as well without any issues for 2 years. I read differently on forums; lots of problems with them.

ive had a digital 6 for a while too… never any problems with it.

I have the old standby MSD 6AL box on my Z and it seems to be trouble free…old technology though…still analog, not even digital…

I had the Mallory HyFire VI on my Duster…It is Digital and you get a lot of nice features for the $$$$. Two rev limiters, a start retard, a high speed retard, a boost-referenced retard, and an RPM window switch all built in.

I have heard a lot of good things about the Pertronix Second-Strike box. It digitally supplies a second spark pulse throughout the entire RPM range after a user-adjustable delay offset. This is said to increase low end torque noticably. It has a single rev-limiter.

If it’s high output you are looking for, then the Crane HI-6 is the winner. It outperforms all the other boxes on the market as far as high spark output. It has a single rev-limiter.

Still confused, yeah, me too…I guess if I was buying a new one, I would probably go for the Crane…The more spark the better for Nitrous!!

i don’t know if MSD got better or not. i had a spell where couldn’t get a new good working box for a while. this has been a few years now. i am still partial to msd since i know how to make it work.

I got the Mallory 685… HyFire VI i believe. NICE setup. Great for my nitrous motor. Has all those above features. Works great

still using my factory distributor with a aftermarket coil forget what it is and new ignition module and had no problems this year

whats the big difference between stock spark and aftermarket ignition boxes? can it really make that much of a difference? Im sure it can make a difference on V8’s but but big of a hp increase / better spark are you talkin?

I had a digital 6 box on my car and it took a shit the first time i drove it on the street. Summit gave me a new one, never had any problems after. The only bad thing with the digital boxes is that you cant jump start the car with another car or put a battery charger on and start it or you will fry the box.

didnt know that. I’ll have to avoid doing that. My mallory has a bypass connector option that you plug in to go back to stock ignition. I wonder i could just do that real quick if i ever need a jump or need to jump someone

are you sure. i have done this dozens of times with my digital 6 box and it lasted 4 years so far.

mallory HyFire VI , great for the blower application had it for 6 years now no issues. unilight distrb.
