Are you running a catalytic converter? If so it may be clogged pretty bad if your header is glowing after 5 min of idle. That would explain the sluggish acceleration shitty throttle response.
yeah it definitely sounds like soemthing in the exhaust getting clogged…
likely cat as mentioned, as i know i’ve heard this to be a pretty common issue with carsound cat’s, they need to be replaced every year or two due to clogging
and not much else would cause your header to glow so much
^^ yup, If your hearing a Kinda hissing/wooshing sound (not your bov) Then that is exactly the problem, the cat is clogged.
glowing header can be caused by many things, lean condition, timing, clogged cat , burnt valves.
you have boost leaks, fix those first, then make sure your waste gate is connected… if that all doesnt work , pm me
I say you poop on it.
ya i fixed the VAC leaks and i am not runnin a cat i have the 3" test pipe and my actuator is hooked up ahhh this is pissin me off any ideas on anything else i should look for?? and how could i tell if my vavles are burnt could i just take off the valve cover and notice it at all??
thanx guys
Take it to a shop. I am still suspecting you are not tuned properly and thats your problem. You have a larger turbo with stock injectors and MAF, an ecu that you have no idea how much timing or fuel is being run. Have you ever had a wideband reading done? I would invest in that, it will tell you right away if you are having fuel issues.
ya i was lookin into gettin a wideband set up ASAP before anything else my air fuel gauge reads rich but i know that dont mean much i’ll try gettin that reading done thanx
Your A/F gauge will still give you a general idea where things are at - they’re just not for tuning.
Assuming your O2 sensor and it’s wiring are healthy, i’ll ask - does your gauge reading ever fluctuate between lean and rich under cruising or idle conditions at all?
If not, then KoukiS14 is probably dead on.
ya when i drive at crusing it goes from lean to rich back and forth till i give it gas then it goes rich and when i let right off it goes lean
That sounds about right, good.
Although ideally, it should really only be running rich under boost, not just when you “give it gas” as I understand it…maybe that’s what you meant though…
Either way, maybe outline all of the symptoms in a little more detail…under what conditions does it feel fine, and the worst? What does it do etc?
well when i start the car it struggles like idleing around 500 rpm and slowly gets higher as it warms up then when its heater up my throttle response is better but still sluggish even in netrual added up to 30-35% fuel with the afc and didnt help much and tried leaning it out takin up to 15% of fuel out and didnt make a difference
sounds like timing to me. but you didnt play with it.
i say check timing and reset tps anyways.
ya i’ve played with the timing and same thing still and stillw hy would my car boost so high in netrual
Yea… thats not good eh.
Ever heard of an Anti-Lag setup ? it almost seems/sounds like you have stumbled across your own setup (hence why the car will boost so high in neutral) “but something is seriously wrong”
I wouldnt suggest screwing with anything anymore until you get a Wideband and actually know how Rich/Lean you are before you try to add/remove fuel… I would also recommend flashing the ECU to see if its sptting out any codes or not…
All though you could try to reset the “Base Timing” and “TPS” as lucky suggested and see if that helps at all…
hey dunno if this info helps but i pulled my spark plugs today and they all look fine but smelt really stong like gas dunno if that would mean its running rich and the tips were a tan brown colour and i found vac leaks and fixed them but still same problem and would the car act like that if the turbo wasnt gettin enough coolant?? im in the process of pulling the turbo off again to check everything so hopefully i’ll have more info soon
thanx again
dan
Backfire could be caused by a few reasons
-
overly rich with no cat
-
fauled spark plus, no/poor spark
-
severly retarded timing.
No power, but making 10psi --> it is your timing
Check yoru timing and tell us what it is before moving forward.
i’ve tried advancing the timeing didnt make much of a difference and the plugs looked good i was told that my MAF could be pouched would that cause my kinda problem??
thanx
dan
what does ur timing read?
make sure that u pulled out the throttle position plug before u check timing.
John
i dont have a timing light and ya i read the FSM on how to do the timing but my timing was fine b4 i installed the turbo can u rent timing lights and if so what do i hook the timging light up 2
thanx
