Installing Daytime Running Lights on U.S. 1997 s14

I’m moving up to Toronto from Florida in a couple of months. My 1997 240sx SE needs to have daytime running lights installed within the first 45 days after I arrive.

None of the dealers down here seem to know how to do the wiring properly for this. I don’t want the entire lighting system to come on during the day – just the high beams at a lower intensity, as the Canadian models do.

Is there any way to do this?

Thanks in advance.

That’s a dammed good question… I’ve wondered about this as I was supposed to do one. I haven’t looked at the FSM, butthat would be teh best place to start. See how Nissan did it. I always like to convert if possible, rather than re-invent. But sometimes you can’t find the right parst, or it involves too many components or too much work. Maybe this requires a completely different light harness…

The way I was considering doing this was to simply put a igniton on power source directly to the low beams. As far as I know they are on a realy so it won’t/shouldn’t feed the rest of the lighting system… although I could easily be wrong. They would be at full strength, but I’m sure a resistor would cure that… someone nwho’s into electronice might comment on that.

I hope this helps, if I get chance I’ll try to look this up in FSM, closest I have is a '95 one, but that should be similar.

…should help.
