I have heard of a flat black coating (never found it) that avtually helps dissipate heat… anyone ever heard of this? in most cases i have heard intercoolers coated with anyting actually coole worse than they origonally did. im just trying not to catch all the attn in the world with my ginormous front mount i just got. and if i can make if flat black… sweet… unless it makes it less effective.

i dont see how its possibly to make it better. your coating it and not letting flow air. you can do a real nice dusting over it to make it look grey and throw a mesh over it and paint the mesh black…i wouldnt paint it solid tho
Coatings do hinder cooling effects. ALTHOUGH if you MUST have a black cooler then use radiator paint… it is designed to allow to cool as much as possible while still coating.
How about the SR71 blackbird coating?

i remember garrett or spearco actually did a test on this, pretty sure it was just general flat black spary paint and they found it to not harm cooling at all.
interesting thoughts… i like/ kind of thought of the mesh idea, i was thinking about putting like window screen in front of it. some may call this preposterous, i call it stealth mode. just to get an idea what we are working with here…

Full-Race coats intercoolers. As with everything else they sell it’s extremely pricey tho. You’d be better off doing it yourself. If you contact them you might be able to weasle out of them what exactly they coat them with.

i believe this is the coating you are talking about. i bought my uppipe and downpipe from them. and you can really tell the difference with the pipes, litterally after running the car hard, once turned off and let alone for 5 min i can come outside and touch my uppipe or downpipe without burning my hand off.
this company deals mainly with wrx’s. i know they are coming out with a intercooler for wrx’s that has this coating on it. but if you send a email to crucial you might beable to send them your intercooler and have them put the coating on it for you. i dont know what the price would be though.
