Intercooler piping question!

Does anyone know where I can get an intercooler piping kit that doesn’t require me to relocate my battery for my S14? Thanks for the help.

Ryan.

Your best bet is to get it custom made.

Something to consider: it costs much, much less to move the battery to the trunk than get a custom intercooler work done. I’m installing one now. 4-gauge welding wire <$20 at Princess Auto. Connectors and junction ~ $20 (depending how many corners you cut). I got an OBX kit for pretty cheap. Fits well on a s14 if you are willing to spend some quality time with an angle grinder trimming and venting the bumper support. One other thing to note: the JDM washer fluid bottle is considerably smaller. My kit was clearly designed for the JDM bottle. Good thing I had a clip…

Just get a smaller battery…

You can also go the route of replacing your stock mechanical fan to a small electric fan. The reason for doing so is that some of the small electric fans donot require a fan shroud for adequate cooling and can free up alof of engine bay room to run intercooler piping on either side of the radiator. You will be restricted to running a 2.5" at best for the intake side of the piping, but it will get the job done.

Regardless, goodluck with the setup & PM me if you require more details.

I have a honda battery already. Are there smaller ones out there that put out the same amount of cold cranking amps?

I think the Miata batteries are the smallest, but I’m not sure of the power they output. CT doesn’t have them though, you might need to go to the Mazda dealer.

yes but are you using a sealed unit or venting the box?

S13GG - Not sure what you are getting at. I’ve got a PP marine battery box (acid proof $15 C Tire) but currently it vents freely into the trunk (which isn’t sealed from the passenger area, I know). I’m counting on the fact that good, modern batteries don’t out-gas much and therefore won’t kill me as I drive. I’ll do some more research and seal the box then run a vent tube out the bottom of the car - if necessary. Any experience?

typical batteries release hydrogen… it’s not toxic… if in some weird way you could run the car for a long time without venting/circulating with fresh air, I suppose it could be explosive…

still not likely

wet batteries also release sulfuric acid in vapourous form when the battery gets hot. so if you plan to run a wet battery without a proper vent box with the vent to atmos. working then put a ’ chemical warfare’ sticker on your car so others can kiss thier lungs goodbye…

a dry cell fron costco is relatively cheap and the extra money you spend on the battery is less then what you’d spend on a new wet battery and a sealed box…

I do 2.5" FMIC builds ups all the time using a Miata battery, everything still fits in the battery corner with room to spare… it’s not required to move the battery to the rear…

All stuff I realise… Thanks. I’m touched you guys are a so concerned about my health. You exagerate a bit though. Think of all the sulfer dioxide in smog soup. Rest assured nobody will be breathing anything unusually harmful in my car. I’ll engineer something.

I’d be more worried about some of the guys in rusty (vented) s13s. Following them on my motorcycle I’m breathing half-gasoline (until I pass).

actually wet cell batterys do not emit sulfuric acid…acid can only be had in liquid form, because there needs to hyrdonium ions present… what is emitted from a wet cell battery is Hydrogen gas which will be toxic to you

thats why you need a battery box
