SR20DET battery help

Okay,

I have a s13 blacktop going in to my s14 zenki
I have a front mount intercooler, however the piping conflicts with the battery. I’ve been told that some people have to relocate their battery to the trunk. However I’ve also known some people who get a smaller battery (same capacity) that allows the clearance for the piping to connect to the throttle body.

Anybody have any suggestion as to what kind of smaller battery? Or even the dimensions?

Thanks a lot!

im pretty sure “Stinger” makes really skinny car batteries

Go grab a battery by Braille Auto, I remember seeing one at JRP Mississauga when I went to get a replacement element for an hks filter. I was seriously contemplating buying one on the spot, but my battery was already relocated at that time…kinda kicked myself for that. Battery relocation takes a little bit of time, your biggest worry is how to hide the wires, other than that, it’s pretty straight forward. Anyhow, the Braille batteries are built well from what I hear, a few guys I know are running them and they’ve never had a complaint at all. What you’d have to do with a slim battery (such as a Braille) is engineer some sort of “hold down” kit…how to go about that, I’m not sure. Hope this helped to some degree, good luck on your project!

Just get a factory replacement Miata battery. I got mine for $100 and it works beauty…see.

Another common OEM battery people use is the Honda Odyssey (van) battery. Its small and packs a big punch (turns over a v6).

Dan I less than three your setup.

wow, happy240sx, that’s a real clean setup, out of curiosity, I have a system sound up that’s linked directly to my battery as well. Will the capacity of the miata battery be able to support all of this?

whats the cca of the miata batteries ???

are you sure people aren’t referring to Odyssey brand dry cells?

i’ve used one from a '96 maxima, it’s a really tight fit but it worked.

you could get your cold side custom made to go under and around the battery tray. Im running a front mount with a optima battery in the stock location.

kind of crappy pic but you get the point.

so i’ve been looking around for some batteries…
my options are still open for the braille batteries, however I looked for the miata batteries (canadian tire) and the guy couldn’t find the stock number

I know a civic battery would work too, seeing that’s a tiny little battery. However, I do have a sound system setup in my car, with amp, and two 10" subs in the back. I am a bit worried that when running the sound system while the car is off will completely kill the battery.
The civic battery from what I understand should still crank…it’s rated at 450 CCA and something like 10-20 amp/hr (can’t remember off the top of my head)
do you guys think that’s sufficient enough for my application?

if u have a capasitor for ur system, u dont need to worry about your battery

i just got my battery (ended up with a higher capacity civic battery)
it was actually a very tight fit…I had to hammer it in a bit to make sure the hood would close…

but it’s all in! and it works! the sr20 is alive!!!
