Which type of Intercooler is better a Bar + Plate or a Tube + Fin. To be more spicific this is for my Ka-T. The size will be 18" long x 6" high x 2.5" thick.

If you are serious about building a turbo car, grab the book
Maximum Boost by Corky Bell. It’s like $25cad shipped from Indigo.ca
Thanks Gonad, appreciate your help. Those sites are a good read. BTW I checked out your site, your car is pretty clean. I think I have seen it around Brampton. In one of your vids it looked like you were at the McDees @ Ray Lawson + Hwy 10. Anywho thanks again
I live right across that McD (well across Longos actually).
i read on FA that tube and fin flow better in a larger fmic application
greddys VSPL is bar and plate and their upgrade better intercooler is the RSPL which is tube and fin… so
tube and fin : better cooling lower flow rate
bar and plate higher flow rate lower cooling.
best option for lower boost ( 1bar and under) is a tube fin sized properly for your application, however you can use genrally a 30% smaller bar/plate for the same application.
bar and plate is better for high boost applications, the fall off pressure is lower by a squared rate over a tube and fin as your pressure rises and you can run smaller IC" for the smae ammount of flow… again, your cooling ability is lowr as their is less surface area in contact with the air molecules…
That being said… thier are vastly different levles of tube and fin IC… some are low end like the greddy and stuff from ebay for $250. then thier are very high end tube fin from ARC or even as i saw here griffin out of summit racing…
You’re wrong. VSPL is NOT a bar and plate intercooler, if you look at a picture of a bar and plate you can clearly see the difference.
The actual difference between the RSPL and the VSPL is the fin design. RSPL provides better cooling and slightly better flow.
and ther rspl is polished. and it says greddy on the couplers
oooooooooooooooo

When looking for an intercooler recieved this bit of info in an email from phase2
“Greddy VSPL - The shittiest i/c on earth, no stock. The core sucks major.”
Sounds good to me.
mmm rspl
low bost v-spl is better then r-spl…fcuk what you read…test and try it ureself…
here’s a plan, spend the extra $100 and get a Griffin or smaller spearco B/P… buying the cheapest part is only going to give you the cheapest performance…
humm i dont seem to have any issues with my vspl.
why on earth would a company have something for sale that they dont like and think is shit.
i highly doubt that they said that.
GT
Unfotunately buying different cores and dyno testing them to see which one makes the most power is out of my budget.
Phase 2 sells it, they don’t produce it. And they’re honest about the products they sell. That doesn’t mean they wont have customers who have already made up their mind on buying it.
Why would I make it up?? I still have the email, I’ve bought stuff from them on many diff occasions.
It’s an intercooler, you’re not going to have “issues”, in their opinion it doesn’t flow as well as other ones on the market.
but im saying i highly doubt they were that blunt on what they thought about it.
if greddy got word that a reputable source such as phase 2 was calling their stuff shit then i dont think greddy would be very happy about that.
in my business bashing a maker like that would quickly get you cut from being a dealer.
meh.

just one look at the greddy parts should show you ( I’ve seen both up glose and personal ) that they are no different in terms of design then those on ebay for $175 us… first step in geting a good cooler is to get the right size, bob provided the equations for this in the last IC discussion I suggest everyone look at it… getting IC’s meant for stage IV RB26’s becus it looks ’ pimp’ is going to leave your monkey ass at the light waiting for it to build up enough pressure to make a difference. like wise with a cooler that too small. your turbo may be pumping or trying to pump out 12-14lb/min at 1bar but the cooler is only allowing 8lb/min through … useless and wasted effort. Use the tools to get the right part… don’t think with your " i’ve got 100 bucks what can I get ?" instant gratification attitudes. all your going to do is get laughed at by the people who do use thier brains to make decisions.
Well fuck me! I actually agree with Rotokami.
surrrre you have
did it have a full carbon fiber core too?
go back to your na supra buddy.
those ebay intercoolers are peices of shit the fins on them are weak and will be mangled in weeks. my greddy rspl is top notcy quality and dosent have 1 single bent fin after an entire summer. my friend has an ebay intercooler on his civic and the fins are bent and trashed. needless to say he is getting rid of it because its junk
