IP address question

can you tell somehow or is there a database someplace, other than the isp, that will tell you who owned an IP address from two years ago?

I don’t think “they” (whoever they are ISP or domain registrar) keeps historical tabs on who owned the IP prior. They might keep a month or maybe a year but 2 years I would think is stretching it. Then again, I could be totally wrong. Call up Network Solutions or Verisign and see what they say.

Welcome to 2006, where the SCC rules all.

I believe that since ISPs are the gateway to the internet (which is a gateway to the world of many illegal activities, none which I participate in) the SCC requires them to keep taps on everyone/everything for at least 7 years.

Coming back to yoru question : no, i think the IP is only stored there, unless they were accessing a particular site that logs things (like forums) but you have to know that it was them logging on.
