hey just got a new to me iphone 4 that works but will not connect to my house wifi. connects to every other wifi network no problem except for my house.

My laptop, old phone and girlfriends phone connect no problem.

What I’ve tried so far
Turning off router and letting it sit for a few minutes
resetting network setttings
resetting phone to factory
disconnecting other devices

Whats the error?

sorry error is

“Unable to join the network ‘BELL213’”

And yes i have lol thought that went without saying

If you have a passcode/password that you use to connect to wifi go into to your router settings and turn them off. Then try reconnecting your phone to the router. If it works you need to change your security settings. Most likely whats happening is the phone can’t recognize the type of security settings that are required by the router. Starting to see this more often on older devices trying to connect to access point using newer security protocols.

do you have 2.4ghz enabled on your router/ap ? iPhone 4 does not support 5ghz.

“802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi (802.11n 2.4GHz only)”

Might need a different security algorithm on the router. I had an old shitty blu-ray player that needed wpa over at my cousins house a few months back.

My 4S does not do 5ghz, so I had to make sure I also had a 2.4ghz network. But if you are even able to see your network “BELL213” then this probably isn’t the issue. Perhaps your network is using a newer encryption as JustinH said. I had that problem with a work laptop a couple of years ago. Try a more basic wireless password method.

I know of a few people post update/patch where their wifi adapter in the iPhone was smoked out. Apple told them they do an intensive wifi test as part of the upgrade and it blows out a fair amount of the wifi nics. Their reply was basically like…“your iPhone nic was on it’s last leg if our test finished it off”. Essentially. Have you applied any recent OS updates/patches?

sorry been busy the last few days.

I restored the phone and went to ios 7. Thats all i did as far as software. I talked to somebody at the source as i was there anyways and what he is telling me is basically my router sends a different/newer frequency out then what the 4 can handle. He said basically you need to buy a new phone or find an older router…

True?

An OS update wouldn’t change the frequency of your router or phone’s network card. Did the phone work on that router prior? If yes then no, if no not impossible but unlikely. The iOS7 update is the one that nuked my friends iPhone NIC, that’s the OS I was speaking of prior.

never had the phone connected to this router at all. had it given to me on th 18th, never was able to get it to connect
