Ok, I have a couple questions for forum members regarding upgrading from a 4s to a 5.
1- Where is the cheapest place to upgrade under contract (VZW?) I have always gone to the flagship stores but I heard from a co-worker that he got his from Walmart on promo for $100, and they handled everyhthing as well as the VZW store would. I hate walmart but $100 would make it worth it to me. Any insight?
2- Outside of selling the phone private party (not really excited about that) where else should I go to trade it in? It’s a white 16gb 4s. I did Gazelle with my last phone and that worked out fine. I can also trade it in to best buy for more than gazelle but i’d be stuck with a best buy gift card, which I could just turn around and buy a Visa gift card with at the register. Another option besides private party would be the Kiosk in the mall for selling your phone, but i’m not sure what i’d get. Any insight on this?
-Gazelle- Offering $240
-Best buy- Offering $290 in store credit/visa card
-Kiosk-?
-Private party- lowball sketches, no thanks.
VZW just gave my wife $90 for her banged up cracked 4 with a weak battery. Might have been able to get a bit more for it elsewhere but for zero hassle it was good enough.
Just beware: This switched my wife to a limited data plan, which should have been no problem because she never uses more than like 800mb per month. Within a week she had used 1.5gigs out of the 2 gig plan. Some asshole (either apple by default or the VZW bro) set up her phone to sync her photos and videos to icloud over cellular data. I caught it so it wasn’t a problem, but for anyone geekless this could have gotten expensive real fast.
Verizon online has the 5 for $199.99 with a 2 year contract. So if there’s any independently owned and operated Verizon store, you might be able to negotiate with someone there. There’s one out in Syracuse that got me a killer deal on mine and my wife’s 4S phones. I tried looking for a similar store in Buffalo but couldn’t find one that would work with me. Not sure if you have any reason to make your way out here, but if you do I can give you the name of the place. I don’t know how much you’re looking to save, but I think at one point they were offering the 5 for $150.
I couldn’t agree more, but $100 is $100. My coworker switched to the 5 around the holidays, and i’ve been searching around to see if it’s still around. If not, VZW store here we come.
I’ll have to do it eventually anyways, so i’m not worried about being off unlimited data. To the cloud!
honestly just go to a corporate verizon store so you know the service is great, and for the phone sell it to a friend on fb, thats how ive sold all of my old iphones and they were gone within a day
Apple definitely doesn’t default icloud to backup over cellular. My wife’s phone is on the defaults which is over wifi when plugged in to AC power. Sounds like Verizon douche looking to increase profits.
Well it got changed, and he didn’t change it. Do you know how stupid you sound not admitting it must have been Verizon?
Remember, this is the same company that got in trouble for having their sales reps push people away from iPhones and toward Android phones because Verizon makes less money on each iPhone.
what would a rep get from changing that setting? you mentioned other initiatives that most profitable companies have
the rep would have to take time to make the change, only to hear someone bitch at them… fyi a rep makes 0 , thats right $0 from people having overages… it produces a bad image and would cause harm and absolutely no good
as far as the iphone scenerio, this is how i summed it up:
would you go into best buy or any computer store and ask for a model with specs that were good last year, or do you go and want to get the best you can get for you money? the iphone 4/4s are outdated devices on an outdated network and you want to be stuck with that for 2 years? no thank you
any iphone on verizons network that isnt the iphone 5 is a waste
fyi apple products should** be the same price everywhere, i have heard of best buy dropping their prices though ( i sell to business’s or else id be glad to help ya)
Around the Holidays the big box stores that sold phones had black Friday deals but there’s nothing out right now, and prices are the same everywhere. I walked into Best Buy with my old phone today and walked out with a new one, the adapter from old connector to new, and a gift card for $6.83. lol. They made it just as easy as the flagship store would have, and this buyback program is nice.
