IPv6? WHitey, Sonny?

You guys hearing anything on this in your day to day work environment? I just read a newspaper article on it and it was fascinating stuff. DOD claims it will be “IPv6’d” by 2008, that the rest of the world, Asia in particular, is heading towards it sooner rather than later. According to the article, the USA is in jeoproady of being left behind as we own the majority of the 4 billion IP addresses currently in existence and are complacent as a result. .

It’s the new hotness that will allow nearly anything with an electrical circuit to have an IP address so that damned near anything can communicate with, well, anything. So they claim. Run your life via your cell.

Anyway, wondered if you’re hearing about it.

IPv6 hype has been around for years, Internet2 uses it and it works fine. most switches are ready for the change as well… who knows when it will actually happen though
