Al-qaida mostly dead from unmanned drones is wrong.
How so? Every major figure has been fucked up via them other than osama
It’s like a snake that keeps growing back the head when you cut it off. Al-qaida will just put the next one in charge.
You know what the problem is? We are facebook officially at war with them, if we defriend Al-Qaida it’ll be fine.
I predict a repeat of the post Soviet occupation of Afghanistan except in Iraq (Afghanistan will follow later).
Easy Nostradamus
More importantly when is the next Lusitania, Gulf of Tonkin, Pearl Harbor, 9-11, etc going to be?
that’s what i was thinking i guess it still counts
I echo the question about what the heck the military dudes are going to do when they get home… maybe spend some $$$ for the first few months but that will get tired when they can’t find work.
Bing just so you know typically a rotation for the Army during the Iraq war was 12mo over 12mo back. I was deployed 15mo of over a 4yr term. So for the 3 years I was in and not deployed we trained. When you are in the states you train and are often as busy or busier then when deployed. With this war ending I assure you it isn’t like the returning troops are going to come home and be “out of work”. If they want to scale down the military they tighten up recruiting and in some cases have gone toward early retirements.
I don’t really care to discuss this topic and quite honestly have almost no thoughts about it anyhow just wanted to share that since I find the notion that all the troops will be “unemployed” really silly.
There were a lot of boots on the ground that got many guys from the deck of cards and other lists. When these guys were always surrounding themselves with non-coms you don’t have much choice. Funerals, weddings, and other family get togethers were always great times for traps.
Nothing against Bing or Canadians at all but, Canadians don’t have a great understanding about military life. With myself, older sister, and brother-in-law all having extensive military back ground and my other sisters being very Canadian it makes for interesting discussion on holidays. lol
I don’t know why but this sentence made me laugh.
too bad they are shipping a gang of troops to afganistan. so we will still be over in the middle east.
Fixed it for you.
As far as private contractors goes, I just talked to someone who has been in the AirForce for over 20 years and she said the Air Force is half the size it was ten years ago but there are literally hundreds of thousands of private contractors doing the jobs the Air Force used to do. I am not sure about the other branches but it makes me wonder how many US paid people will still be in Iraq after the “troops” are pulled out.
I doubt there are private contractors being shipped overseas for battle or active duty. I do a lot of work with Tinker AFB in Oklahoma and from what I understand (and if someone knows for sure, please correct me) they hire contractors to do repair work and shop type jobs. One of the reasons for this is that the turnover rate for active military personnel doing these jobs was simply too high. People were constantly being trained and it made it impossible to maintain consistent capabilities for any of the shops. Now they have unions (Such a PITA for me to do my job with them) and people that simply go to work on the base like it was any other job.
A few years ago Congress passed a law that requires the military to be capable of ~50% of the work/repairs being performed, so that has been a big driving factor in this.
You are wrong. lol I got a few job offers this past year for combat ops roles in baghdad and surrounding areas.
Marines will still be in Iraq indefinitely unless we plan on walking away from our massive new embassy.
That is US soil so it “doesn’t count.” And there are two embassy facilities in baghdad. One on BIAP and on int he Green Zone. A good portion of their force are civilian operators.
