It's not made of cheese afterall!!! [Moon Content Inside]

Pretty interesting discovery by NASA, for all you science buffs out there:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20091113/ts_afp/sciencespaceusmoon

So the experiment was a success. Definitely cool.

So $79 Million to find out:
“In the 20 to 30 meter crater we found maybe about a dozen, at least, two-gallon buckets of water. This is an initial result,” Colaprete told reporters.

Wow.

Did not know we haven’t been back on the moon since 72. I thought we were. Guess I haven’t been paying attention as much.

Meh. High level scientific research doesn’t always produce directly useful results.

If nothing else, we have proof of concept. This is potentially a big deal.

What was the point again? So we can sell bottled moon water?

So we have a place to send a few people to try and ensure the survival of the human race if/when we accidentally the planet. Becomes a lot more doable if they have water.

Isn’t that why are we building all of those underground bunkers here?

theyre gonna be flooded when the ice caps melt and the ocean comes on land.

That is why they are being built in the mountains (high ground).
Oh, and it is going to happen way before the ice caps melt away.

:tinfoilhat:

It’s only directly useful if we want to send people to live there.

The big issue is IF we send people there, then having available water on-site is a BIG deal. Water weighs alot, and to lift if from Earth will cost $$$.

“Mining” water from the moon saves that weight, plus solar-based electrolysis of water provides oxygen to breathe, and arguably, a new source of rocket fuel (Liquid H2/Liquid O2).

I don’t buy it for one second.

NASA - Never A Straight Answer

SOME ONE SAY MOON??

Bigger pic needed plz

NO PROBLEM

That’s better. My eyes aren’t what they used to be

SCALE 1/1

We don’t even know what’s in the water on our own planet. Why are we spending so much money seeing if water was on the moon? I think they should take some of this insane NASA budget and spend it figuring out what we actually live on first.

Funding for NASA >>>>>>>> funding for exploring our oceans.

discoveries like this make me wish i could see the world 1000 years from now

ALSO SOMEONE FUCKING DELETE THE GIAN MOON PICS
