Its worth a shot. How do you change what port number a protocol will use???

Wayne and I cant figure this out out. We have a server that needs to communicate out port 2525 with its SMTP traffic to work correctly since out exchange group decided to change it from the default port 25. The software that sends out the notifications over SMTP doent specify the port, only the desitination server, and the vendor said it uses the host machines settings for port configurations. Well the host machine is a Windows server 2003 box.

the only thing we found was in the Drivers/etc/services file the big port list and you are suposed to comment out the old entry and make the new one with the port number you want. well we did that and the Wireshark capture still shows it going out port 25. Even if you take port 25 out of the services file all together it still goes out port 25, leading us to believe that the services file is a pile of shit and something else on the client is directing the traffic that we cant seem to find.

any computer nerds have any other suggestions? We dont want to call some habib from Microsoft for this shit, just to hear them tell us to REBOOT:retardclap.

Slam it against the wall a few times and try again. If no luck, repeat process until it’s fixed.

“when all else fails, hit it with a hammer” my buddy’s senior quote :lol

Use your penis

Funny you should mention that. When i walked over to the server room, there was a neck tie on the door knob. I didnt think anything of it, opened the door and walked in to find Wayne mounting the rack humping away. It wasnt pritty.

I hope he didn’t give the server the “virus” that he’s carrying :ahh

Let me VPN in and give me all the passwords you got.

Wayne, you numb nuts, your supposed to use a sock :facepalm

:lol

i was all like “ohhhhhhhhhhhh don’t fucking look at me, bitch!!!”

Can’t you specify ports of apps in Firewall or NIC settings? I’m on Windows 7 on every machine now (all different looks, menus) so I can’t recall where I saw it, but I recall seeing something regarding port traffic, etc. in one of the network windows in either the Firewall or the NIC device.

Not really sure what else to mention other than what you’ve already tried.

I’m not a server guru, but I believe that services file is by Windows server to determine what services are listening on what ports. Though I suppose its possible that an SMTP relay will use that file to determine what port to send email on. What are you using to send the email to the exchange server?
