There was an article on yahoo news that a gradeschooler took up the art of Ju Jitsu to overcome a bully in school. I guess he pinned the bully down and make him cry wolf until a teacher came to break up the fight. The Ju Jitsu teacher told him to strike once and only once and the results will be in his favor. Even though it is to late for this kid, it’s something his parents should have thought of so he could defend himself in school.
If your kid is being bullied this badly, why not sign him up for a martial arts class. Effective way to turn the tables, I would say.
I got picked on big time… Joined the army early senior year, and watched as everyone barely graduated, didn’t get into anything besides ECC like they hoped, I sat back and laughed at all the cool kids fail at life b/c they couldn’t hide behind their letter jackets without looking like a douche bags anymore. Life sucks, get a helmet.
How did he kill himself?
Ok, granted I don’t really have a clue as to what this kid was put through on a daily basis, but that being said, NOTHING is ever so bad that you should kill yourself. EVER. Suicide is the quitters way out.
Now, is parenting to blame? Maybe partially, on account of the other kids parents. It sounds to me that Jamey’s parents were at least attempting to get him help, or help him as best they knew how. As a new parent myself, I worry about how my own child will turn out, and I hope to f’ing christ he doesn’t turn out to be a weak willed limp noodle. If he does, my fault. I won’t blame it on the system, society, or what ever other bullshit reason I could possibly manufacture.
First world problem.
cliffs
It is sad that he killed himself.
Yeah bullying sucks.
No there isn’t anything that should/could be legally done to deter bullying in school.
Yes social networking has become all too powerful in our daily lives.
A teacher used the term irregardless.
Had a friend in high school who was picked on as a kid. He started weight lifting, then powerlifting and by high school won multiple competitions in weight classes above his own. He was putting up more weight than the football team could, and needless to say he wasn’t picked on again.
For reference: just because you take martial arts, doesn’t make you a fighter. I studied TKD for years and and met many people that would lose in a fight with scarecrow.
There are so many other reasons why sending your kid into martial arts strictly for dealing with bullying is a bad idea.
Truth.
I had a lot of friends in high school, but I wasn’t the coolest kid. The cool kids all still live at home, manage fast food restaurants now and date the younger sisters of the other “cool kids”.
Committing suicide is a bi-product of having much more serious mental issues. Did the bullying cause it? Probably didn’t help, but being outrageously flamboyant didn’t help the bullying.
There’s two kinds of “victims” when it comes to “being bullied”.
A.) The kid who has a condition/status/issue that he cannot help. Mental retardation, deformities, living in poverty, etc. etc. Quite frankly, this type of bullying makes me sick and understandably so.
B.) The kid who has personal issues, but does NOTHING to help his case. Gay or not, you’re going to be picked on for wearing “Lady Gaga” headbands, dancing around on youtube and filming your personal reactions/review to the newest ‘Adele’ or ‘Brittney Spears’ remix. Be who you want to be…aslong as it doesn’t force you to kill yourself.
He could be gay, that’s fine. I have a lot of gay aquaintances. The difference is…they don’t go around making it blatantly obvious and placing a bull’s eye on their forehead.
Exactly what I was trying to say in posts 24 and 28! Damn it, no one else realizes it!
Everyone is just letting their emotions (the fact that this kid died is really tugging on everyone’s heartstrings) and their own experiences as children get in the way of seeing that this is truly a luxury issue.
Fucking WIN!
very true, not to mention there has always and will always be teen suicide.
This did not start nor will it end with him
Couldn’t agree more. I have 0 problems with gay people at all. The problem I have when they feel the need to announce to the world they’re gay. I have gay friends, work with gay people, have played in bands with gay people, none of them are the kind that shoves their homosexuality down your throat.
:rimshot:

I was working on another computer and realized that I had typed that…figured someone would pick up on that.
It’s funny you guys say this though because I feel like nearly every day we shove our heterosexuality down their throats. Just as much as you don’t want to hear about their flamboyant lifestyles, I doubt my gay friends care all that much about me banging a girl .
But it’s okay for us to talk about a girl sucking a cock but if they are a loud flamboyant homosexual that isn’t okay? I know some loud flamboyant heterosexuals that annoy the fuck out of me, doesn’t mean they’re now going to be a target of mine.
I’m a Technology teacher, so you point is null?
Also, anyone that goes, “ugh, first world problems”…
Unless I live in a god damn third or second world, I have first world problems. Sorry your hipster faggot mentality doesn’t allow you to have these issues because, “ugh…it’s so lame to complain, complaining was cool back in high school, I have real problems. There are kids in like, Africa, that are dying. I need to care about these issues even though they have no direct impact on my life at all. In fact, if I didn’t even know about these other “issues”, I wouldn’t live my life any differently.”
Seriously, first world issues…fuck off.
