Jamey Rodemeyer - Bullying/Suicide

The over-the-top heterosexuals are just as bad, but they aren’t the minority and typically not the ones getting picked on. I don’t care if you are into same sex or opposite, if you’re banging dudes or banging guys…keep it to yourself. Unless I ask :P.

<~~~ Definitely not a hipster boss.

Everyone should have knowledge of the problems that other countries deal with. If we did, the rest of the world wouldn’t hate us so much.

Instead, we eat our fast food and think that the only places in the world that matter are ones that fly the red, white, and blue.

EDIT:

All I’m saying is that we shouldn’t complain about our BS problems because there’s always someone out there who has it worse than you. That’s something my mother always told me.

Are you calling my mother a hipster? :stuck_out_tongue:

^They do.

I don’t care about the Sudan, I really don’t.

Nor do I care about any country in Africa, unless it means my Nike shoes are going to cost me more money.

I’m aware of the issues in the world, but I do not “care” about them.

I’m gonna call a spade a spade and let you know that you’re a fucking dick.

I kind of agree. We are overly concerned with the problems of other countries because we are morally and socially obligated to. We have diseases here, we have poverty here, we have homeless here, we have murders here. I think we should tackle one country at a time.

So, how did the kid kill himself?

Obviously we should tackle poverty on the east side before we do somewhere else abroad.

Obviously none of us are gonna quit our jobs and spend our life savings to go fight poverty there.

However, we should have empathy for what they’re going through because we share the common bond of all being alive, on this planet, at the same time.

It would be one thing if you said you cared for them but understood there wasn’t much you can do. Making a comment about Nike shoes and saying you don’t give a shit makes you a cocksucker.

Nobody knows. They “found him outside his home” and the police aren’t releasing any details.

btw
I never said I give a shit about third world issues.

Bullying isn’t even close to being a top ten issue for us Americans.

It doesn’t make me a cocksucker by any means. It makes me realistic.

I know that I’m not going to do shit about it, you know you’re not going to do shit about it, and let’s be honest…it doesn’t even matter what the shit is about. It’s not effecting me, therefore I do not care. Why should spend time or effort on something to does not directly benefit me in the least bit?

Now, war…disease…etc, etc…suck. Don’t get me wrong, but unless and until I can do something that will change that situation…don’t care.

This.

Also, if bullying turns into plain old assault, there should be further consequences.

I got it pretty bad in middle school, to the point of people breaking into my house and messing with stuff, physically beating me up, ditched in the woods, etc… Some of it was pretty fucking traumatic at the time. Especially when you are too embarrassed to tell your parents, and your only friends are too busy having fun to give a fuck that you’re hurt. Still probably not as bad as this dude, but don’t be so quick to brush people off.

I agree here though, it’s not manslaughter at all.

You should still care and not make smart ass comments about it man. Having that complacent “as long as it doesn’t affect me” attitude is just another reason why our country is going down the tubes.

Dude, you’re just epitomizing the spoiled, suburban white kid attitude. Did you grow up next to the Cleavers?

Remember, There is a difference between interweb beliefs and realzlife beliefs.

Yeah, I know. But I feel like people would be more likely to say what they really feel over the interwebz because they can’t face any consequences.

Face to face, I bet most people who didn’t give a shit about that stuff would probably lie and say they really cared.

Anyway, it’s probably time to get back on topic.

I once bullied some fat loser into eating a kid from a third world country. Didn’t bother me one bit.

I was on the receiving end of some of the more extreme bullying, had to go to the hospital a few times, and that was just by 2nd grade. I ended up switching schools a couple times. There wasn’t as much physical violence when I was older, but a lot more of the psychological crap. It didn’t really stop until my sophomore year. Suicidal thoughts started around 5th grade and lasted right up until I was about 17.

It’s really easy to say that “Wah, it’s just kids being kids” but sometimes it’s a lot worse than that. When you’re constantly pushed around, made a fool of, and being told your worthless, you eventually start to believe it.

Mental illness is definitely a factor, but I’d say that the bullying is what pushes most suicidal kids over that edge.

I bet your the same person that bitches about us becoming involved in foreign countries, i.e. Iraq, Afghanistan, libya, the Korean peninsula, the Balkins, kicking Hitlers ass… Those people were in shitty situations…

One reason our country “is going down the tubes” is because we don’t care enough about our own problems at home and we run around the planet crying over the rest of humanity. Sometimes not everything and everyone can be saved. Darwin at work.

I can get on board with some of what Motocrossx23 has to say.

Moto has a point. We are so bent up with the tragedies of other countries to not even fix our own. How many TRILLIONS of dollars went into the war in Iraq over that past 10 years? Now look, the economy is in the shitter, millions of people are still without jobs, gas is rising, and we are still in debt…yet we need to KEEP spending money to support a war that will never end. We can train all the officers in iraq to defend their city but there are ALWAYS going to be radicals that are gonna try and bring them down. It shouldn’t be our job to babysit these fucking shithole countries. We killed some major leaders over there, but there will always be a predecessor.

Edit: Didn’t mean to support a derail for the thread. Bullying sucks.

Damn it I wanted to move on. Lol

You guys aren’t getting what I’m saying. I love the isolationist argument. I can’t stand the fact that we wasted a couple trillion on wars while our infrastructure is crumbling. I wrote a 20 page paper about it a few years ago in college. I have to point out though that Iraq should not be put in the same category as WWII. Not even remotely similar situations.

My point was that you have to at least genuinely care for other people, even if caring for them isn’t going to benefit you. I wouldn’t have given a shit had he said he knew that nothing any of us can do will change the situation in genocidal countries. He legitimately doesn’t care, and that’s shitty when we’re talking about real human beings.

It’s Friday night now, I’m off to enjoy it.
