I seem to be gravitating to a lot of foreign and lower budget films lately. For some reason these movies just seem to be better than that big budget Dukes of Hazard type shit that is in the theaters.

The Japanese really make some fucked up movies.
A few weeks ago I watched Ichi the Killer which was pretty crazy.
Last night I watched Audition. Totally fucked up movie.
Another good flick is Downfall (German) about Hitler and his final days before his suicide.

Anyone else have suggestions of other foreign or low budget movies that I should check out??

not forign, but check out a movie called 21 grams sometime. That was a pretty fucked up movie, but good IMO

I believe I watched that. And yes it was good. Doesn’t have to be foreign. Just not the shit that they talk about on stupid entertainment shows.

The next one I want to see is Ichi1 the prequal to Ichi the Killer.

have you checked out the ‘battle royale’ movies? straight JDM right there

they are alright, the book was pretty alright too

Heard of them. Never saw any though.

Other examples of stuff I like would be the Machinist. I never heard of it until just before it was released on DVD. Awesome movie though.

Suspect Zero didn’t do all that well in the theaters but it was kind of a cool movie.

Another one that I believe is British is Stickmen. A very cool pool movie.

Paid in Full----about the crack game in Harlem

Kids—a day in the life of NYC kids. awesomely powerful

Bully—same director as Kids, not quite as good, but great shock value

Boondock Saints----not a large budget film, but good and somewhat unknown to the world.

Donnie Darko-----probably one of my most favorite films, just because of its sheer creativity and ingenuity.

I saw Boondock Saints and Donnie Darko. Heard of Kids but never saw it.

Donnie Darko was super creative and you need to watch it like 30 times before fully understanding it.

damn… havent seen kids in forever.

deffinitly a little disturbing to watch though IMO… but still a good flick.

I was just telling a friend about these 2 movies tonight. Train spotting is fucking good but a little disturbing. Not disturbing enough to not watch it though.

Just watched Leon the other night. Good flick.
Clockwork is pretty sweet too. I actually saw that for the first time in an ethics class at UB.

yes i have kids on DVD.

and BTW the book trainspotting is 100X better than the movie and the sequel to trainspotting, porno, by irvine welsh, is 50X better than that…

oh…and if you really want to have a good weekend, get a lot of brew, maybe some bud if you smoke and watch The Band of Brothers DVD set in 10 hours…it really is pleasureable.

Its a bigger budget film, but i think its kind of a mind-F**K…Vanilla sky. Hands down one of my fav movies.
Also if your into anime at all, Neon genesis Evangelion series, epsiodes 1-26 and the 2 movies…its got ALOT to do about god, man, religion, evolution, the human mind, the subconscious, family, and alot of other issues. its starts out all cutsey, then gets realllly f’ed up from there, and the bets part is, i friggen love it.
