just joined

Hello locals,
I stop in now and again to read posts, but never really sat down to join. So here I am in cyber flesh and blood. I’m sure I’ve blown by some of you in the past, as I’m a frequent driver to all the main drags around the burgh. I have a project car that makes a lot of people point and laugh, once we race though, usually it’s a thumbs up, or a “I’m gana pretend I wasn’t trying gesture” 12 sec stock internal Hyundai Tiburon in a nut shell. Not just a bolt on project, I’ve come at this car from all angles and didn’t cut corners anywhere. Brakes and suspension mods came first, next thing you know (like a lot of you) I had an extra parts bin overflowing with enough parts to build another stock car. If I still have your attention, that is if you kept reading past “Hyundai” I’ll let you know I took on this project for that reason exactly. No one (at the time) thought these Korean POS’s could stand a chance with the post “fast and the furious” scene. That’s where I get my thrills; smoking beemers and audi’s in a car selling @ 1/3 the price is a feeling of its own, on stock internals at that. I have a built motor with a ported head, sitting on a stand, but before dropping the block in, I decided to CNC the head reconfigure the intake and exhaust and send my cams out for regrinds. Along with comp springs there’s nothing the built block won’t handle. My tuner @ Next Gen Motor sports has just a built bottom end and beefy valve springs and pushes 500hp with 400lbs of torque. there is officially no clutch on the market (yet) that can handle the power that we (NGM heavy hitters) are making and the claimed handling power for Tiburon race clutch kits seems to be a fable, the stock block (with piston rings being the weakest link)is safely making 312 whp and 260lbs of tq with alchy injection. @ 7-8 lbs of boost. Keeping this thing stuck to the road is like every other FWD’s problem. I’m sure one of us will snap a half shaft sooner or later, but we’re all waiting on a twin disc w/custom flywheel from NGM to actually get the power past the tranny housing. I’m looking forward to logging on pittspeed in the spring and make it to some flashlight drags and shopping center meets with some of you. I don’t hate, but I do instigate other imports and a lot of the “raw power” that revs next to me. I can’t wait to line up with those of you calling “BS.” none the less, I’m glad to officially be part of the local car scene that has made a name for itself in the pittsburgh region (where I first herd of PITTspeed.com)

While I think you could be a little more humble in your first post, and I can take offense to some of your rant since I own one of the cars you mention you “smoke”, I can understand your joy because I feel the same way about a lot of V8’s that I can beat who get ticked that a turbo 4-banger AWD can lay it down (careful on the use of the word “smoke”; I know of a few local Audi’s you aren’t “smoking”, because we can mod AND get the power to the ground). I wouldn’t get thrills on beating Audi’s and Beemers in this town; 99% of them are soccer mom grocery getters. Even the few RS4’s aren’t typically owned by people who care much about being faster than you. A stock Audi is an overweight pig anyhow.
Nice car nonetheless, and I’d rock one of the new Tiby’s coming out. I didn’t buy an Audi because it cost 2/3 more; I bought it because it was everything I wanted in a car.
Welcome.

Beat a modded one on a road course or in snow, however, and then we’ll talk.

Newer V8 S4’s aren’t that fast since they’re normally aspirated; and the few modded B5 model (pre-2002) twin-turbo S4’s in this area are smoking fast and I’d bet cash you aren’t taking them. I don’t think there is another heavily modded 1.8t in this area, either. Beat a modded Audi on a road course or any Audi in snow, however, and then we’ll talk.

A lot of the M series BMW’s in this area are posers with badges on fake M cars. And I haven’t yet come across a new 335i modded in this area (Those things are putting out 400WHP easily). Until then, be happy on beating the Asian cars that are modded or the V8’s who laugh when you pull up next to them. Anyone in most stock Audi’s in this town who even try to race another car in a straight line are stupid people. A moped is faster than most stock Audis.

Edit of my post for the reading impaired:

Blah blah blah, blah blah blah.
“Smoking” an Audi in this area isn’t an accomplishment because for the most part they are grocery-getting soccer-mom hauling underpowered fat pigs of a luxury car. And I’ll bet you 2/3 more than your car’s worth that mine didn’t cost 2/3 more than yours when new, either.
With that said, I doubt you have taken on the few seriously modded Audis in this neck of the woods. A modded twin turbo B5 S4 will eat you for lunch. And I’ll race you any day on a wet or snowy road, lol.
Welcome nonetheless.

Good luck with that. There are several “raw power” imports on here that run in the 11s or faster.

you sound like a :tool:

Welcome anyway.
