Dear god. I used to sort printouts in that lab when I was there until I got fired. Good note was that it was more intelligent people and a Linux lab so you didn’t have to deal with stupid public but holy crap it was horrible.

I don’t mind they come in late most of the time. But the only thing that’s kinda get annoying is that they ordered couple dishes for 4 to 6 people without soups, apps, and drinks. Then the servers stay back late and got like $2 tip?
I have kind of wondered the same thing. If you are open till 10 but dont like people showing up at 930, then close at 930.
It’s common courtesy to not show up at a restaurant 30 minutes before they close.
Closing early doesn’t solve the problem of 10 people for 2 dishes of food and no tipping.
Hawaii was floating a law that said you had to tip (if I remember correctly) because there are so many Japanese tourists. In Japan there is no tipping.
You could mandate a % gratuity after 8pm and just add it to their bill, or automatically add in gratuity if the table is more than 4 people.
I hate mandatory gratuity. You get tipped for a job well done. It shouldn’t be automatic… except in the case of foreigners… especially germans. So I guess my point doesn’t really matter.

Charge a plate fee, if they want to share then they can pay a few bucks for the extra plates. Maybe after that, they’ll either stop showing up, or they’ll order more food.
Not tipping is bastard move, if the server even did a half-way decent job.
