For the most part, domestic mods are much cheaper than imports. Our prices are completely jacked up. If I owned a domestic (Yea right), I basically could order the entire car out of Jegs. Nothing wrong with that but you don’t have, on average, prices like we do: ie. AEM for $2K+, catback = $1K, injectors = $500+, etc…
Yes, the LS1 is a fantastic motor. It sucks that GM wrapped D- build quality parts around it. 03+ Cobra is plagued in the similiar regards as well.
Totally cool- no harm, no foul. I don’t think i’ve ever met your friend. I do mostly time trials with corvettes of mass.(COMSCC) which sould actually be called miatas of mass. because of how many spec miata guys there are, and patroon bmwcca. So unless he runs with either of those groups or goes to the grand am races at lime rock i probably haven’t met him. Jesse might know him though.
:werd and $5k won’t quite get me FI, so with that money I could do a header, exhaust, intake, hondata ecu reflash, throttle body and gears and gain about 4 peak horsepower, maybe 17 over stock around 4k RPMs and only be marginally quicker due to gears, which have a huge down side as well.
I have not owned either but I have worked on just about everything at one time or another… I just love cars in general and try not to get into whats better than what. Everything was engineered for a purpose and the company must have been satisfied if it made it to production… at least I hope :confused
Extremely oversimplified… You couldnt get a LS1 out of the 13s with the small amout of gimmick parts sold in jegs. Most of those parts are for old school, carburated muscle cars. $800 for a stock ZO6 manifold is serious dough. On the other side. get a 200 shot of giggly gas and have the car tuned for it and you would be knoking on 10s door with a near stock car. Its all in how you look at it. My cousins EG hatch went 11.8 with less than 10k overall investment.
You can’t? Considering there have been reports of 12.99999999999999999 on a bone stock one, I am sure a nice pair of tires and some good driving would do the trick. Want me to look up Jegs and find 2-3 boltons that would do the trick?
The statement is a generalization but I believe an accurate one: Domestics just don’t have the expensive aftermarket as some of the Imports. I’m happy for them. I have the complete opposite in terms of aftermarket so maybe I am a bit more bias.
shawn96vr6 is def right, it is a way cheaper aftermarket for domestics, think about it from the stand point of jegs or summitracing, if you own a mustang or camaro, chances are you are buying aftermarket parts, a lot of people with hondas and other such vehicles are not into making there cars fast but just to make it to work. Its all about what will sell the most, ya know?
depends on how you look at import modding vs. domestic…
I cant explain to tell you how many turbo kits I have seen for hondas, dsm’s and VW’s for under 2 grand brand new for a full kit…where as a Turbo kit for a C6 will run you 8 grand or 6 grand for a ls1 turbo kit
seen cat backs for camaros, mustangs and vettes for over a grand brand new. Vera Ram intake for a Z06 runs nearly $800.Headers, $1600…and have seen them as cheap as $600…depends on what type of product you want, and your goals.
a camaro or a mustang are much like a civic in the modding world. TONS of parts are universal and they have been around since the 60’s. Parts are out there for cheap…but cheap doesnt always mean the best.
Those are two higher end cars, a corvette and an m3, of course they are going to be expensive to modify. They cant really be compared to the 20-30,000 price tag on a brand new honda/acura or a vw
it just hasn;t had THAT big of an aftermarket, it’s still a sizeable aftermarket, but everybody makes the same damn thing and nobody likes to share valuable info (cracking the oem ecu for example) to help others.
