impossible!!

Venom > *

dude the viper motor is garbage it’s only like 50hp/liter stock, all they’re doing is throwing a shitload of air into an inefficent motor, i’d take a motor that makes 120bhp/liter and has a usable powerband n/a any day

edit:

i know it’s stilla great motor (the viper v10) but…very inefficient.

i just put it on there because the engine bay looks nasty…

Lingenfelter/Z06/ZR1 ftw.

K20 > * :wow

john deere 22hp lawn mower engine FTW!!

K20 swap…

Honda does a great job of pushing every bit of performance from its small displacement economy minded engines and recently we have been seeing turbocharged HP out of NA motors such as the K20. They dont have the tourque but when they are in Hondas… who needs torque. For example (K20 = 200hp stock or even 240 in 2.0 S2K, 1.8T is 150-180hp or in its finest form in the Audi TT is 225hp) The heavier VDubs and Audis need the torque that comes with forced induction and the computer ramps down boost in these engines to increase turbo life. I feel both of these engines are greatly engineered for what they do and as I see it the big down fall of VW is the cost to upgrade. But Honda has their engines almost on the edge of what is streetable so most of their potential I feel is in turbocharging anyway.

First, most of your justification about which makes are better are terrible, because they need a lot of maintenance and are expensive to repair does that mean Ferrari engines are terrible? From a shear reliability stand point there is no comparison between modern honda and modern VW, Hondas from the late 90’s to current just don’t break nearly as often as there VW counterparts. That said older Hondas are known for their share of problems, as are old VW, certain older VW’s are better in terms of reliability over certain Honda’s of the same era. The sheet metal seems to hold up better, but the electrical systems don’t - its way to common to see weird lighting problems with old VWs to ignore it. Stock vs. stock, in comparison to the older cars, I would rather drive a MKII then any comparable honda, but the chances are significantly greater that it will require more repair then the Honda.

Allow me to inject my two cents, it appears I am one of the few, if not the only member who has owned both VW and Honda. I had VW Fox 1.8, a MK II Jetta 1.8 digishit injected and a MKIV GTI VR6(my brother had a MKI rabbit and a MKIV Jetta 1.8T), each one of those cars have given me more headaches and problems then all of the Japanese cars I’ve owned, all of the old ones have left me on the side of the road at least once. To ignore some of the all to common problems on the MKIV’s is just plain ignorant, window regulators, rear brake calipers, MAF sensors, coil packs, etc… In a modern car that is unacceptable in particular in a car that was in production for 6’ish years, most of those bugs should have been worked out with in the first year or two. With that said, this is where VW fans will call to the “emotion” the car delivers and call the Japenese competition an appliance - I drank the kool-aid for a little while and used the line myself, I see now that it was me holding onto something that didn’t exist, its the only justification that is used to offset the quirks. The other one that is used is the community, its a “culture” and while its more true then it is of Honda, I’ve met some of the biggest ass holes in my life in the VW community(not like Tom, just straight up douche bags). After my disappointing union to my 01 GTI I had enough and got a 04 TSX 6MT, that car ended my assumption that German cars were more fun to drive then the Japanese competition, the TSX was more of a drivers car then my GTI ever was - the GTI was faster in a straight line but it just didn’t make me want to drive the way the TSX did. With a few simple bolt ons the TSX was the best “drivers” car I ever had and when you add to that, I drove the TSX 5k miles further then I did the GTI not a single thing broke, I did oil changes, which were cheaper and easier then the VW’s, I put tires on it, but they cost about the same and lasted longer and I put gas in it, it also got better fuel economy.

In my mind the tides have shifted, if your talking a CIS injected VW vs same era Honda, from a drivers perspective the VW would be more rewarding, albeit, requiring more maintenance. Considering OBDII and on, I would go Honda with out a second thought. When I was in the auto biz, me and the guys kept track of certain thing, partly for our own knowledge, partly to help pass the time, when it came to most codes stored in a computer in an OBDII car the top 5 spots were held by VW, with number one having 15 codes stored down to number five with a modest 9 codes stored, the next closest was a GM with 5 codes.

There is no black and white answer, most of it is grey area at best - depends what you want from a car and what your willing to live with. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, there is no perfect car, they’re all different and I’m glad. If we all drove the same car life would be boring, but don’t allow yourself to be fooled into thinking any make is vastly superior to another because its not.

:worship :bowdown

And that’s why Timmay is always welcome here. :number1

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

There is a huge difference between the car itself, the motor, motor design and motor reliability, power outputs, owning a car for a year or twenty years, there is no solid answer.

my theory is that, you engine only as good, or is going to make a lot of power, by how fat your wallet is, the only thing that makes a motor is money

That’s true to a certain extent, however $5k on your Camaro would go much further in terms of gains then $5k would on my S2000. Its also impossible to ignore that some cars are just more rewarding to drive then others, and various drivers judge that on different standards.

Hey! I strive to be the biggest dick on the block and i’m proud of it. :crackup Not to mention we’ve only met face to face like once I think. Although I did bust your balls hard as fuck once for claiming a ludicrously “high speed cruise” you once had. :nod

I don’t think we’ve ever met, through we have crossed paths on forums in the past and you are certainly an asshole, but in the good sense. Some of the touch holes that I’m referring to are on a level you wouldn’t want to associate with, you can be a dickhead, but most of the time its in humor, these people were ignorant and blind, two things you are not.

One of my good friends does own a race team with a number of cars capable of incredibly high speeds, I lack the training(and licensing) to drive them at tracks. I have driven his Radical SR4 and one of his indy lights cars, both are incapable of ludicrously high speeds, though are very capable cars in their own right. His Nissan R88C can go way too fast as could his Spice Cosworth GTP - in my opinion both are a huge waste of money, they are foolishly expensive to purchase, maintain and race, all of which go against what this jew stands for ;D

Correct…and I have seen some imports that I can buy by returning my moms Beer cans…

Everyone has their own preference to which car is best, what motor is better bla bla arguments like that can go on for decades and in the end, it still wont get anywhere…to each his own…In my eyes the LS1 was one of the greatest motors every created right next to the 2JZGTE where as someone else will disagree with me.

It was that spice cosworth we were talking about when we had the arguement.

I was drunk pretty much all the time back then, so I can neither confirm nor deny my claims from that era. To set the record straight I have NOT driven the R88C or Spice Cosworth GTP, I suspect the results would be less then favorable if I had; I have driven the Radical SR4 and Indy lights, both of which are fast, but not kill yourself in an instant fast.

Since you hang out a lot of local tracks you may have met my friend, does Bill E. or LFR Racing sound familiar to you? He doesn’t race a lot up in this area, but he has so it is possible.

Certainly no hard feelings from the past, I’m not proud of a lot of things I did when I was living a self-destructive lifestyle, but it has helped frame the person I am today so I suppose it can’t all be bad.

Any car is only as good as the person who cares for it.
