KA24E-swap

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a 90k KA24E from another member on this board and had plans for swapping it in for by rod-knocking one.

Anyway, I’ve got so much work that I can’t possibly do it… I was talking to a mechanic at work and knowing that its a KA24E-pull out and KA24E-drop in, it should only take them about 8-10 hours, but the labour would be about $800+. Thats more than what I paid for the car + engine put together!

Basically, I’ve got all the tools in my garage needed for the swap EXCEPT an engine crane/cherry picker and O2 sensor socket. Heck, bring over your rotors and we’ll machine them on the brake lathe

But yeah, I’ve got almost all the tools needed but the crane and the O2 sensor socket. I’ve got 3 jacks (1 low profile, 2 regulars), a 26 gallon air compressor, a bunch of air tools, sockets, wrenches, etc.

You just need to bring your engine crane/cherry picker. I can probably get the O2 sensor socket from work.

I’d like to know, how long could one (or a team of you guys) take to swap my engine? I’ll provide everything but the crane and beers (I’m 17, can’t buy beer ;)) but I’ll order pizza

How much would you guys be asking for in order to do the swap?

Or…

Could you recommend a place to do the swap (locally) dirt cheap, but DONE RIGHT? (Very unlikely, but meh).

I’m located in Ajax by the way.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Lets do it im up for it. Never done it, but i have an idea. why dont you start by disconnecting grounds?

id help pm me only if u paid my gas i might be even willing to bring my cerry picker ps. its an easy swap:S

I was planning on draining all the fluids and labeling/disconnecting wiring and hoses yesterday and the day before (my 2 day offs) but I had exams to study for. Today I’ve got work…

ariza034, check your PM’s

Dj-Infinit, I’ve got a copy of Super Street’s Project Car, both issues. First issue is the one with the '90 240SX. Same as mine, just theirs is manual (and in better condition). Anyway, the first few pages in the 240 article shows step-by-step how to take out the KA (in order for them to put in the SR20). Basically, follow those steps and follow 'em backwards for putting in the other one.

man i doubt its that hard. its just disconnecting everything, draining fluids, and removing anything holding the engine in place. Then putting back is just about alligning everything and wiring if its a different engine.

At the end of the day lets do it setup a date.

Oh all you have to do is pick me up from Oshawa if i cant get a ride:D

Dont have g2 yet:((thats why i need a ride)

Dont have g2 yet:( (thats why i need a ride)

Haha, nice! Do you even have a 240 lol?

But yeah, let me get things sorted out with the cherry picker and then we’ll set up a date. I’ve also got a few guys here in Ajax who won’t mind coming over as well, so thats good (basically, a bunch of 17-18 year olds working on a car). I’m working for th next couple of days, but if anyone has any time to go to Princess Auto, could you check out the price for their engine hoists?

Thanks

Also, i have owned 2 240sx’s lol, and currently own one lol.

Ill get the price of the engine hoist soon.

Its $299 @ Princess Auto… Thats too much for me at the moment…

Does anyone locally have an engine hoist w/ chains available for me to borrow for one or two weeks?

I got quoted $800 for one of the guys at work to do it… I don’t have that kind of money, plus, I need this running NOW!!! Its almost there, everything it needs to run is there, it just needs to be put in… This is driving my nuts! Its ridiculous, it could have been running a few weeks ago… Seriously…

yo man ill be down for helping if you still need some people. i dont know what im doing really but an extra head never hurt right?

and ill be able to buy beer…

i used a solid steel pipe and some chains on two sr20 pulls

get 3-4 guys and be careful and it worked perfect - no need for a

find one long enough to run sideways across the car with about 2-3 feet extra t grab onto

guys on each side and lift her out - then relax your back haha

there is some guy in oshawa selling one for 160$ on kijiji.

use a tree to take it out …lol

UPDATE:

I now have my own cherry picker! $190 from Princess Auto.

I’ve only got ONE day to actually work on the car. Tuesday the 24th. I have plans on Wednesday and can’t attend to the car.

Any Ajax-locals wanna come over on Tuesday for some pizzas and some grease  PM me if you’re interested! No alcohol will be available though, I’m 17, can’t buy that lol

URGENT INFO NEEDED: bell housing bolts. Whats the measurement on it? I want to put my engine on the engine stand, but I don’t have any bolts (other than the one already in the car). Can anyone provide the measurements on it tonight so I can pick up some machine screws from CT or Home Depot tomorrow to put my engine on the stand?

Thanks in advance!!!

Ye men pick me up ill reach up. Maybe my cuz will reach to if he meets up here seen?

Yo let me know if your gonna pick me up
call me 9055505159

i can help if youd like. should only take a couple hours.

im in ajax anyways so if your ever stuck on somethgin dont be afraid to give me a holler

Cool…

Anyways, I’m attempting to do this myself. I only need to take the bellhousing bolts and the bolts from the downpipe to pull out the engine.

Prep-work on the other KA should be done the same day and would likely be swapped in as of Thursday (assuming weather permits).

Thanks for the offers guys, I’ll be sure to post up in case anything comes up.
