I have an 95 240sx with intercooled (fmic) sr20det. With the stock KA rad i was overheating really badly. I just got my koyo rad installed on saturday, and it doesnt get quite as hot, but it does get hot enough to cause concern. Mainly during the day, and even at night. I am running the stock KA fan. I also have NO thermostat. Is anyone else having this problem?
You can not use the stock fan without a shroud, else it will just suck the air from the sides of the fan and not pull it through the radiator. If you dont have the SR shroud then get an electric one off the stanza or pulsar.
I have an SR with KOYO and stock fan with no shroud…not a problem in 1 year
I believe the temp sensor is the s14 KA, and yes i do have a fan shroud. The fan is wired so that i can turn it on with a switch. I even pulled out the front grill to allow more air into the motor, and it continues to get hot.
How do you know it’s overheating? Is it just by looking at the temp gauge
on the dash?
Get yourself an aftermarket water temp gauge and hook it up after the
top rad hose and see what kind of reading you get.
If you can run 190F or less on average, you are good to go.
Yea i mjust looking at the sensor gauge on the dash and it goes up about 3 mm from the warning bar. It usually doesnt go higher then that.
Can’t trust those guages, especially if you plan to run any real power.
problem solved. I went to cooksville auto salvage, grabbed dual 12 inch fans from a 99 grand am, and now its running perfect. No overheating at all, these fans are powerful as shit! Thanks for the help tho guys.
You’re not getting enough airflow to your rad its as simple as that, unless this is all low speed stuff. Anything over 60km/h you shouldn’t have overheating.
You dont need a watertemp gauge if your water temp on the gauge is going above the middle SOMETHING IS WRONG and it NEEDS to be fixed. You’re not racing your car, infact your only running stock boost. something is definatly the issue, i’d suggest putting the fans on a thermostat and finding out if its airflow or a bad waterpump or your thermostat, maybe your coolant is just low or you have too much coolant and not enough water in there.
you need a thermostat too buddy if your not running one the water will just keep flowing what the thermostat does is it hold it back a bit longer to cool before recerculating it back
Sasha, i diconnected one fan, and no problems there, it doesnt overheat even with one fan. Im gonna place a thermostat on the second fan.
Yeah, i wouldn’t run your car without a thermostat. put one in and get a temp guage, i’m going to change my thermostat soon and might find an electric fan and dump the clutch fan…
