sr20det overheating

after about an hour of driving …my thermo gauge starts to climb.

check changed thermostat …anyone have any ideas.

what car? was is swapped in? is it missing the fan shroud? are you running an e-fan? did you bother looking at your fuses? Some people belive that SRs over heat alot, but I’ve seen them run on factory rads, and stock fans with no shroud in 30 degree weather and its fine. Rember that the SR runs hotter then the KA so if you swapped it, its going to look like its hotter but thats its normal temp.

sorry man…its a s13 sr20 in a s14…yea rite now i;m running it on stock rad…wit no fan shrout, puting it on this week. and using the mechanical fan …wha fuse are u talking about, and the temp needle moves pretty close to the HOT sign…

well then its overheating for sure…no fuse for a fan controlled by a clutch. (I don’t believe anyway) put on the shroud, and I’m a big fan of E-fans on thermostats, but most people have “issues” with the thermo so they run it on a switch. Thats the extent of my knowledge, when I was running an SR it had a koyo and a 14 inch fan, and I had no problems. Someone with more experience should jump in when its a decent hour and people are awake.

get an aftermarket thermostate that opens up around 70 or 60. nismo ones are pretty decent

Are you using the stock temp guage to tell?? If the stock guage has reached the H, lets just be thankfull your sr runs still. Unless the sender is fucked as H on the stock guage is about 120 degree’s C and hotter.

Re-bleed your cooling system and fill with 30% antifreeze and some water wetter.
Buy some sort of aftermarket guage.
And to make the stock mechanical fan have any kind of effectiveness you need a shroud for it

Graunteed thats it, you need the shroud!

what temp are sr’s supposed to normally run at? mine runs between 125 and 150 F

are you sure your coolant system is pressurizing? i had an overheating problem in a few of my other cars because of tiny pinholes in coolant lines, which would not allow the system to pressurize, which will result in overheat.

Stock thermo anywhere between 75-90 is ok, 95+ is pushing it.
The Nismo t-stat runs alot colder between 65-80 is normal with that one.

this is all in celcuis by the way, use google to convert as i don’t wanna

yea iono …i just drove around today and the temp seems normal…yesterday when it happend …it was usually when i was idling.

if it only happens at idle, its definitely a fan/airflow issue… or maybe your thermostat is stuck closed.

yea the thermostat was changed wit a oem one from nissan and the coolent is flowing good.so i guess i;m put my shrout back on and see how it goes.

Why did you take it off?

Probably cuz the KA shroud does not fit an SR.

Unless you got an SR shroud with your motor

my car doesnt warm up fully then i guess. 52-66 C. i have an SR fan shroud if you are wanting one…

yea i have shrout wit the sr20det radiator…my sr rad was leaking soo i had to put my ka rad back in …and the shrout didnt work…but i found another sr rad soo imma give it a try.

update…yea my car is acting weird now…when cruising after about 1 hour my car starts to overheated.the gauge shows that its near the H…but when i turn the hot air on for a bit …it starts to drop back down . and i leave the heater on low for the whole time id rivee and the heat gauge does not go back up …any one know if its the sensor …or is my car messed.

I know your hating your mystery problem. But I wish my car could have something funky like that, that be pretty sweet to figure out why its working odd. (I just posted my thoughts)

i would almost bet a million bucks your coolant system isn’t pressurizing properly. pinhole in a coolant line somewhere… OR get your rad checked, my friend had the same problem, the rad was full of calcium deposits and wasn’t nearly efficient enough to cool.
