L82 vette?

so a few days ago i was driving down military in tonawanda right by the 290 and saw a vette for sale, no big deal. well today i finally stopped to look at it, fair condition needs a lot of love, but on the hood was an L82 emblem, im going to try and put some pics up soon, but does anyone know anything about this car? i have the vin number codes i just have to get back out there to see if its the real deal or not.
what i know about the car:
1980,
~85,000 miles,
auto,
black on black.

L82 = 70’s small block, low 200’s HP stock.

yea…sucks majorly

L82 was the hottest motor you could get in a 'Vette back in the mid 70’s- early 80’s.

350, 4-bolt main
4-barrel carb, dual plane intake
forged crank
#882 heads with 2.02/1.60 valves
decent cam

Basically it is the low compression/smog version of the old LT-1

They are somewhat rare in numbers. Most 'vettes came with the L48 motor. People in here need to realise that ANYTHING over 200hp from '74-'90 was a HUGE deal. Most V-8’s from that era were 140-175hp.

Amen.

You can usually get those relatively cheap. I’m a hater of that body style.
Cheap meaning $4-8,000

L82 is a great motor, was awesome in its time, friends father has one and it moves nicely

that has 99% truth to it, but anything over 200 hp? what about mopar big blocks such as the 440, 426, 392 hemis, or hell even the 360 4 barells made more than that, if ppl were havin a crisis about 200hp they musta been throwing kittens over bridges for 400+

All of those motors lost a ton of power when they stopped using leaded gasoline.

L82’s are pretty sweet.

i own a 79 l-82 4speed, car has no nuts what so ever with the stock motor. thats why its sitting on a stand in my garage and the 500hp sbc is in the car

ummm 426s & 392s werent made in 74-90
440s had about 200hp

low compression, smog bs, safety changes and unleaded gas changed the face of cars in the early 70s

I had a 1980 black L-82.Had white interior tho.
Few more facts.
1980 was the last year
you could only get an auto with the L82 in 1980.
What were they asking for it?
D

it was just a general statment^^ i was only specifying in the year of 74 when the last challengers were made

Optional R/T engines were the 375 bhp (279.6 kW) 440 CID Magnum, the 390 bhp (290.8 kW) 440 in3 (7.2 L) Six-Pack

thats from wikipedia^^ idk where you got 200 horse from, the six cylinders were making that

up to mid 74, the last v8’s chrysler made were the 360 (5.9L) making about 290

…and it was wrong. Move on.

I don’t mind the 80 vettes at all, but the motor would have to be beefed up to be any fun.

That would make a great motor to build up from.

I had a 1978 Anniversary car with the L82 and autotragic in it.

SLOW AS BALLS. but a good pissed off sounding cruiser.

heads, cam, intake, carb, headers and exhaust and you could easily make 400hp. i know everyone is on a ls1 kick but the older small blocks are great motors to build.

brian

Agreed usually a decent camshaft, Vortec heads and a new Edelbrock intake will really wake up a SMOG bottom end

Here you go, a cheap 76
