ok ok, so you are basing value on education alone. I see I see. hmmmmmm well if that is how you are thinking I just have nothing to say But my sister is more inportant then you and she could not do any kind of engineering. I guess Ill have to come to you when I am writing up my next pricing comparitive analsys as well as muilty million dollar advertising campigan.
I agree with you theo, I know a bunch of Engineers that could not work with with marketing and buisness managment as well.
So is George Bush…
Anyway, I don’t know how everyone got into this, but I never meant that business-people are less good at what they do than engineers.
I just think they’re dishonest by definition and make engineering suck. Best example being the Concord supersonic transport, something so beautiful and revolutionary that speaks to the greatness that humanity has achieved is no longer in operation due to it being un-profitable. We as a species took a step backward in history to save a few bucks.
Then there’s companies that don’t follow the bottom line and make awesome things, like the Bugatti Veyron, which costs way more to make than what they’re selling them for. They’re losing money to push the boundaries of automotive technology and make history.
with the Concord, they were loosing money, so does that mean they were selling out becsaue the stopped running the program even if it would have cost thousands of jobs because it would have fun the company to bankruptcy?? what is the diffenition that you speak of that makes business people dishonest??? I guess I am dishonest, I guess my father, uncles, grandfathers… are and were all dishonest then, I guess the family on the corner with there little deli or flower shop are dishonest and I am sure there there are people in your family that are business people and honest. You might want to look at your statment again.
I’m talking about mixing engineering and business. Engineering should be fun, it should be about creativity, ingenuity, and pushing the boundaries. I dunno, maybe that’s why I don’t want to go and get a job, I don’t want to see all the knowledge and skills that I’ve gained in school become smeared with the poo of capitalism.
Maybe getting a job at the right company will let you know that you can still have fun, use the skills that you learned in school. Again I have not herd any of my friend talk about not having a good time, not using there skill’s and feeling like that are not really being used to there best. I do not understand how you can form this opinion is you have not even been in the work force. Hell talk to the engineers that work for my company, They have a freaking BLAST of a time.
Oh, it for sure depends on the company, I’ve just heard a lot of bad stuff from people that have gone into the workforce. Many I know ended up coming back to school just because they didn’t want to deal with it anymore.
ok then we kind of agree. well that is good. I just mean that statment was very insulting to any buisness people. Kind of like I said “all computer engineers only have sex with hookers and girls that use to be men” totally not true.
I have to agree with solarian about engineering. If I knew that engineering jobs were 100% driven only by money (as they are usually), I would have picked something else as my profession…
it’s always about making as much as possible, in as little time as possible and as cheap as possible…
not its not, so Maybe look for a job that is not about that. How about a job that you help make things safer, or products that actually really help people. is that is what you really want then go and look for them. They are out there. Lots of jobs that are not about making cheap products.
Benson, when it comes to engineering jobs, you obviously don’t know crap!
I’m working as an engineer and in a field that I actually went to school for, which is more than most engineers can say when they come out of school… half of them end up doing crappy sales or being technical representatives… I know this, because more than half of my friends that were in my classes ended up doing just that.
There’s probably a handful of companies in Canada that I could apply to do the same job I’m doing right now. They are all the same crap.
I’m proud to stamp my name beside the logos of some of the biggest companies in this industry. However, they are all about the same thing… get it done quick, cheap and as quick as possible. There’s no fucking fun involved in that and there never will be.
(btw, I’m posting this from work… you think it’s fun to sit in the office for 12+ hours each day? Don’t get me wrong, I do like my job, but I also realize that’s it’s not the easiest thing in the world and it’s certainly not a “fun” job.)
I am not even going to bother with this any more.
If you hate you job then don’t complane and look for something that you actually give you some self enjoyment. I rather make a little less money and enjoy what I do and my life then have my name stamped becaside some big companys. and what what do I know anyways I was only a usless business student. Ill just go back to enjoying what I do everyday.
most of you haven’t managed anything more complicated than a fast food restaurant.
reading this makes me wonder how you guys were even capable of turning this in to a debate with quite obviously close to if not zero business management experience.
the term management itself is so broad that in one situation or another, you’re all 100% right, and in others, you’re all 100% wrong.
what if you manage a mcdonalds? is it important to have an engineering degree now? what about managing a lawyers office - wow its a good thing I went to engineering school!
there are probably more different types of managerial duties than any other job title so this argument is retarded no matter what side you take.
