From what I’ve read, the EvoX responds VERY well to mods! AMS has a “power page” write up in one of the magazines I get and put on their Hard Intercooler Piping, Manual Boost Controller and Turbo Back Exhaust… I don’t think they did a reflash yet, only because nobody has yet… but they gained like 70hp!! That’s not bad!

The biggest part that really sucks about that engine compared to the 4G63 is that is has an aluminum block compared to the cast iron.

EVO makes a ton off a MBC becaue the ECU kills the boost so it doesn’t implode itself. Just enough boost in the powerband to get the marketing HP numbers though. :confused

That was another thing… the ECU was making the boost drop off towards the higher RPMs… let’s say peak boost was 20psi, it was dropping to 13-14psi… so the MBC prevented that, and the power kept climbing all throughout the power band.

the new evos are def growing on me. Their stock performance lacks that of a stock 8/9, but it almost seems more mod friendly then the 4g63… which I thought would be impossible. I can’t wait to see what some of the turbo kits put down and how it holds up. This new engine needs to prove itself before I become a fan. It has impressed me though, so far.

I believe that was done by Mitsu to avoid knock from the non-93 octane users. It was done in a way to get the peak # for the marketing. Smart move actually but any ECU that needs to do that is suspect to me.
