Laptop Recommendation

I am currently looking to replace my 5 yr old laptop that the hard drive died in, and would like to get some recommendations

What i am looking for:

i7 4th gen
8gb or more of ram
500gb or more hard drive
14-15" form factor
3+ hr battery life
< $1000

I would like to have touch screen as well, but it’s not a deal breaker if other features make up for it. I don’t game, I use Visual Studio, Photoshop, SQL Server and other development programs most of the time.

The two I am looking at right now are:

Dell Inspiron 15R-5537
i7 4500U
16gb DDR3 1600
1tb
15.6" touch
Intel® HD Graphics 4400

$899 with coupon

Lenovo Idealpad Y410P

i7 4700MQ
8gb DDR3 1600
14" 1600x900
1TB + 24gb SSD
NVIDIA GeForce GT750M GDDR5 2GB

http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y410p/?sb=:000001C9:0000ED9D:

$899

Out of these two, can you recommend one over the other, or can you share experiences with each company? This will be my first new laptop (or computer for that matter) purchase in roughly 5 years, so not quite up to speed with what brands are good these days. My last computer was a dell and it’s lasted 4 years. If there is another computer I should check out, I am open to suggestion. Or if I should change one of my requirements.

Thanks

I’d go Lenovo over Dell any day of the week, however if you are looking in the 14-15 screen range I would target a laptop with 1080p.

Not sure if there anything in there that peaks your interest but some decent deals.

If you can wait a couple of weeks, keep checking dealnews.com for the Lenovo Y410, Y500 or Y580 deals. I’ve seen them at $769 in the last month.

Just check daily under their laptop deals… you’ll find it soon.

Thanks for the suggestions. I checked them out, but didn’t find anything that jumped out at me that matched these.

I ended up going with the Lenovo. The main reason was that when I looked up the processors, I found out that the U processor in the Dell was only a 2/4 Core/thread processor, while the QM in the Lenovo was a 4/8. For my planned use of it with Visual Studio and SQL Server, this will prove much more useful than a touch screen. I also negated the memory difference because 16gb of memory can be had for ~$120, and the current memory can be sold to decrease that cost.

if you’re looking for a dell let me know i’ll sell you a $200 gift card for $150, i got it with a tv and i don’t need anything from there.

edit: read all posts first, nevermind. leaving op up in case someone else is interested though.
