Lease/Accident Question

Family member has leased car and someone backed into it (cracked part of bumper), no info nothing. No biggie.

Question is, if we repair the car without putting in a claim, can we use aftermarket parts? Or for the lease must they be OEM? With paint and the part it would be less than 300$ for the bumper. Not worth putting in the claim when the deductible is 500.

If you work at a dealership please chime in. Thanks =)

does insurance or the dealer know about the accident? If not, just fix it and not worry about it…they aren’t going to go over the car with THAT kind of detail when it’s turned it to know the difference

LKQ - Like Kind and Quality; same thing would happen if you went through insurance.

No, OEM doesn’t matter. The only thing they can cite you for at the end is improper/inadequate repair. So make sure it’s done right and don’t worry.

It’s not like I do this for a living or anything.

^ This. Just make sure your “aftermarket” part isn’t some hideous pepboys ricer special. As long as the dealership doing the turn in inspection doesn’t notice it there’s no issue.

Speaking of… color match wax FTW on lease turn in cars. :snky:

LOL.

Certain manufacturers don’t do pre-turn in inspections. Toyota is one of them. A 3rd party inspector comes out a week or two later and does it. Who is the lease through?

Thanks Beck, it’s through Ally, it’s a Chevy Cruze

Ally doesn’t do pre-turn in inspections. If they have an issue with it, you’ll know 2 months later when you get hit with a bill.

I have had some pretty serious shit get by Ally/GMAC on lease turn ins. You’ll be fine.

Should have no problem. For future, http://dealer.gmacinsurance.com/assets/SmartLeaseProtect_brochure.pdf isn’t a bad investment when leasing.
