Weight reduction is also a biggy, and can help especially during start/stop driving. Granted there really isn’t much to pull from a civic that wouldn’t affect comfort in some way. (Ex. no real sound deading, not that much interior, light plastics)
I know they are slow and all. But I’d imagine like the rest of us he uses the gas pedal.
This is dumb, but may work.
could you use a dual alternator system?
one on the gas motor, and one on the electric motor, if the electic motor is spinning why not spin another alternator?
On a 15hp continuous electric motor, running an alternator would rob quite a bit of the energy. It’s possible, you can gear it down and help out the motor, but doesn’t seem worth it.
how about this theory…if i coast with the motor off and only in the on position and when i need the engine to start the ending can i just put it in gear and let it pop start. this is on highway use. I need a button or switch that will turn the car but still let the odometer work.
who can think of what wire i should splice into to do this? im thinking somewhere in the ignition switch but which wire can i splice without affecting the odometer?
or make a switch to when i turn the ignition off the power is direct only to the odometer ?
last i checked your thread a while back you had done some duct tape work and kept track of your gas mileage. Have you installed lowering springs and a front lip? Is your interior gutted?
TUP to you for being one of the only people on this site concerned about gas mileage. I’m sure we will see alot more of this in the near future.
One stupid ideas I’ve had is to put four (4) toggle switches and wire them inside and connect to each injector. Shut down an injector when up to speed. Sit back as you lean out a cylinder at a time?
The best bet is seriously just to remove the p/s, interior, weld the windows closed and gut the doors, run super light and narrow wheels and tires, no passenger seat, no airbags, never have more than 1/4 tank, drain the wiper fluid, remove the jack and spare, and the list goes on…
If you get the car mad light on super narrow over-inflated tires, and drive stupid slow, you would have to get 50+ mpg no problem.
this thread reminds me of the guys on dateline, i forget what they call them, but they try to save gas any way possible.
one guy only uses ac on a downhill, but shuts the car off when going downhill. (obviously not using ac then)
another did 10 under the speed limit no matter what, THIS WOULD FUCKING PISS ME OFF!!!
there were a few more, but you get the point. im sure someone can find the article on it.
Lean burn cruise is neat. Its not rocketry but have a look at NOx emissions at best economy:
I’m sure if the automotive business could find a way to get rid of NOx better we could see cars do a lean burn. With the increase in direct injection cars we should see better efficiency as well…just gotta get some gas that doesn’t have a shit-ton of sulfur in it
the industry has to look at NOx emissions and take that into account… i dont hell, any car i have older than 1995 doesnt even have a working cat on it.
NOx rises sharply with heat… spray a little water in there and the heat goes down. EGR lowers it too. im sure they arent going to add water injection though cause regular consumers cant be bothered with filling another tank…
