Let's talk small pickup trucks.

True. If you can swing an 05+ you get a real motor, but probably a moot point if you’re looking for cheap utility to save money for a real motor in a real car.

lol stuff 400hp and a 150 shot into a damn Carivan and it would be fun. Well, no, but you know what I’m saying.

Maybe if it was that one at that Sunoco station that has two front ends…

Even though I love GM trucks and have put more than 150k miles combined on the 4 that I’ve owned, I think the Colorado sucks. My friend has one with ~140k that’s had no problems, but its just really small (even the 4 door), real cheap inside, no power from the I5. I’d go with a Tacoma. Friend of mine has one and though it pains me to say it, Toyota really knows how to make a good compact truck.

and its street legal at that.

I’d vote Frontier then Tacoma but I’m not a truck guy and have little experience with them.

If you’re planning to put your bike in the bed, make sure it’ll fit in a compact truck with a crew cab. I personally think a trailer is 948932847592834 times more enjoyable than dealing with getting a bike in/out of a truck bed. Not to mention that then you have tons of room for your gear, tool boxes, stands, etc since the bike isn’t taking up most of the space.

Totally offtopic, but I want to get one of the Dodge Sprinters for track day duty.

I rick roll 4 cars deep and love love it.

Grand cherokee w/318 / or 4.7L v8

V8 power

solid front axle goodness

Utility out the fuckin ass.

Slap on a 2in budget boost for 300.00 some 31’s and call it a day.

I’ve driven both an 07 Dakota ext cab and 08 Tacoma crew cab. The Tacoma was a v6, the Dakota a v8. Honestly, the interior styling on both was about the same for me, nothing super fancy, but definitely not plain old GM/Chevy. Handling wise, the Tacoma went down a trail with small ruts and dips and did fine, handled good. Dakota was perhaps a little more stiff, but still totally fine. I mean, they are trucks. Hauling wise, the Dakota can pull a boat fine, no real cause for concern. The Tacoma, I did not have a chance to pull anything with, just a bed load of random stuff.

I am a bit bias, since I own a Tacoma, basically exactly as you have mentioned, Crew Cab, 4x4.

Course, I have a few little goodies that make it a joy to ride every day.

I had a Colorado 05 before this and while it was a decent truck it wasn’t anything special. It was lower to the ground then the other trucks so center of gravity was better. Push button 4x4 was nice and was pretty quick to activate, but the lower clearance in both the front and rear is cause for concern when trying to take it off roading in the base package.

I also test drove a Frontier and I just did not like the overall feel of the interior, handling seemed decent, even though on paper the engine has more ponies then the Tacoma, it didn’t feel as peppy.

The Tacoma feels more solid when driving when compared to the Colorado, has better clearance and has a large amount of mods for lifting/lowering and other performance goodies compared to the Colorado.

Taoma or Frontier…i drove a supercharged Frontier and i liked it

I’ve never seen a supercharged 4.0 Tacoma. Very sweet. What kind of power does it make now?

Not sure on the hp/tq numbers, since the wheelbase is just a tad too long for us to get it to fit on Innovative’s dyno. I did take it out to the track for a couple of passes in the summer, ran a 13.66 in the 1/4, not to shabby for a 4x4 truck weighing over 4,000 pounds.

i love these trucks…i was considering one before i bought my Spec V but it was out of my price range at the time…

I’m so damn jealous, hahaha.

I’m a bit biased I would say too:

Day she came home:

The selling point for me was that you can get a 4-door with a 6’ bed. I wish that you could get a 6spd, but the auto isn’t bad, especially when towing. I was able to tow about 1-1/2 CRXs and all my tools.

I have the TRD Sport package with the 4.0 V6, 4WD, towing package, LSD, 110V in the composite bed, 6 CD changer, tons of storage space behind and under the rear seats… The only issues I’ve had with the truck: I “broke” the driver’s side wiper this winter because it was frozen to the glass: the nut holding the arm down loosened, and I ended up bending the tailgate slightly, which Toyota replaced, no questions asked. It runs high 15s in the quarter- not outstanding, but not terrible for a 4400 lb truck.

It’s supposed to add ~70hp/100ft/lbs to 304/334 from the stock 236/266, according to TRD

 I like the new Tacomas quite a bit.

If money wasn’t an issue, I’d have a Tacoma, hands down.

man up and get a full size!

x2

The fullsize gas mileage cant be much worse, and they are probably better built compared to their little brothers, especially the Chevy’s
