A MOTHER has made public the plight of her son who became a teenage alcoholic and is now dying because he is not allowed a liver transplant.
Your thoughts?
As much as it sucks for him being 22 years old and just not being like OMG I’ll stop drinking when its this far. I don’t think he should get a liver transplant unless one becomes available and no one else can use it.
I thought since the liver is regenerative, a person could give a piece of theirs and both of them could return to normal health? If that’s the case, I think it should be on one of his family members to donate a part.
there are a few key things to consider for those too lazy to read:
Doctors at University College hospital (UCH), in London, have given Reinbach the most advanced therapies, including a one-off treatment with an artificial liver from San Diego, California. But all have failed and they believe only a transplant will save him.
Reinbach, from Dagenham, Essex, does not qualify for an organ because official guidelines state that heavy drinkers must prove that they can be abstinent outside hospital before they are considered
I think he should go overseas and pay for one if he wants it that bad. I think others on the waiting list should be first if they are not binge drinkers.
More than 8,000 Britons are awaiting an organ transplant, 259 of whom require livers. More than 400 people died on the waiting list last year.
He fucked up his on his own. Sure most of these people have too, but if you can’t prove you can stop drinking, then why kill someone else that could use the liver that has proven they can stop.
I get that, but if thats your stance then why even pose the question in the title?
To me, the list should go in order of urgency. And in a system revolving around “innocent until proven guilty” (if Britain even works that way) I feel he should get the benefit of the doubt.
I really do see both sides and it is quite a subjective matter of sympathy, but in MY opinion, the guy was young, and most teens live life on the assumption that despite mass consumption of alcohol you still have a little older than 22 before your liver shits out.
Edit: Lmao… they should give it to him, release him, and then if he screws it up, just take it back :roflpicard:
I really do sympathize with alcoholics. It’s a really difficult disease to have. The truth is though, that it is difficult to recover from.
The urge to drink never disappears, relapses happen easily. I heard through the grapevines that an orchard park HS alumni just had a parent die from a relapse. The parent was in AA and had previously been sober for a pretty long time.
Take it for what it’s worth, but being an alcoholic severely limits this person’s chances for recovery.
I have zero opinion on whether or not the organ should be given…

Sorry, end of the line, let the people that didn’t do this to themselves go first. Does it suck you were 13 when you started drinking, yep. But that’s mommy’s fault not the fault of the other 259 people waiting for a liver. Sometimes parents suck and their kids end up paying.
Death row inmates should be automatic organ donors and be forced to give up organs for the needy… before or after they get sent to the chair/needle/etc.
and they are doing nothing to infringe upon that oath. They are making every effort they can to keep the guy alive.
They are talking about giving him an organ that can save him or someone else. Someone else is the better option since he destroyed his liver from drinking his ass off.
