how much is paint costing you

Awesome looking bike man.

Good question, lol, I’m not sure exactly but my painter is giving me a good deal. Since the BMW apline white isn’t a pearl white, I’m saving a little I think since pearls can get expensive. While I do like a good pearl white, I just love the simple, clean, brilliance of the BMW alpine white.

That’s what she said!

Yeah…

Did you remove the tank alright btw?

LOL yeah tank came off fine. Thanks for the heads up with the fuel lines and hoses. It was pretty simple after all.

Paint will be getting finished up today, just some progress pics.

Oh boy, another white 636. :eekdance:

Looks good. I want to see this in person when it’s done.

Well, I was going to paint the side covers black. After taping them off on the bike, I decided against this since I didn’t think I’d be able to completely get them covered in black without getting overspray everywhere. So I found the best matching bronze/gold paint I could find, and sprayed them. I gotta say I’m extremely happy with the way they turned out. I couldn’t get the deep scratches out with my sanding, but it’s good enough for me. The paint was a close match but I think it looks even better with the metallic flake in it. Anyways, here’s the pics of the covers and one of the bike as it sits now. Paint has been completed today, and tomorrow I’ll be picking up the parts :D.

Put in a solid night of work and here are the results! Annnd just in time for a little wet snow tonight. Still needs a final wet sand and buff, which will happen once the weather clears up for good and I register it.

Snapped the bolt on the rear of the tank :fu: That was the biggest PITA getting back in, just didn’t want to set in right. Anyways, I still need to get the right side frame slider on. I couldn’t get the stud to budge, so I’ll have to find a hex driver for that.

And again, I’m sorry for the crappy pics. I’ll definitely get some better ones after the wet sand and buff.

Looks nice ! if it were me i would put some Kawi stickers on the tank just to complete the look…and maybe paint the forks black if you get time !

Legit  that looks awesome man!

big improvement, but did you paint the stator on the bike? did you paint the bolts too lol?

and lastly… does the lower not completely match?

looks great. I’m hoping to pick up another 05-06 636, will likely end up with the same color as well.

props, sexy bike.

Looks good, Mike. Over winter you should think about doing the wheels in white, would really set the bike off with the white and black scheme.

For the life of you, PAINT the wheels, powdercoat takes forever. lol

Bike looks great mike.

Thanks for the comments guys! I was definitely thinking about getting the wheels powdercoated white next winter, very early in the winter Chris ;). I wasn’t sure if it would be too over the top with white, but I think it would look really good. I still have the old tank pad that I’m contemplating putting back on. As far as decals go, I might throw small 636 decals on the tail along with Ninja up front, but I’m gonna wait a while to see how I like it as it sits now.

Check back in the towards the bottom of page 2, I painted them gold (as close as I could get to stock color) without taking them off the bike. So most of the bolts match, just maybe one or two don’t that are hardly noticeable. I think it came out really well all things considered. And by lower matching, are you talking about color contrast or fitment? The fitment is off a tad, but I am also missing one fastener that I need to order too.

keep all decals off, looks clean as hell!

Craig likes this.

Spent the greater part of today getting the bike cleaned. My paint guy I think did an awesome job. He wet sanded it down and buffed it to a nice shine. These pics off his crappy camera really don’t do it justice. I’m going to try to get more done with a better camera today or tomorrow. This may be the cleanest it will ever be again, lol.
