look here if you have metal HG

To all who have a metal HG, i am wondering thickness and bore used and who has had their head resurfaced before reinstall.
Also average cost of resurfacing.

I don’t have one, nor know anything about the bore and thickness… But wouldn’t you want one that is engine specific?

It depends on what you are going to be doing with the rest of the engine and how much boost you will run. A friend was running a 1.2mm Greddy with stock internals… but running a GT2871 at 1.2bar. Now, he’s going to be running the same turbo with JE rods and Eagle pistons on higher boost with a 1.5mm gasket.

And you should at least get the head checked out at a machine shop while it’s off. Engines are nothing to cheap out on. 8)

thanks tips.
i was asking for those who own one.
FYI i already have made my informed decision and I just wanted the experience of others. Not to be rude, so thank you anyways.

Alright, guuuuuyyyyy.

if your HG is for an over bored engine, say .020 over and you have not ovebored your engine you WILL be fine…

i use a Cometic that i beleive is for a .020 overbore and was advised by Cometic and Heavy Throttle that i could not use this, however, Ken Harrison at Enjuku told me that they used that same Hg on stock bored SR’s that ran in excess of 500whp… so i went with his experience and it was fine.

thickness doesnt matter too much either. i dont know the stock spec but anything .88 or over will be fine.

DEFINATELY have your head decked. i drove my head all the way to ssuaga to have Caeser do it for me, it was like $100 or something i cant remember, tell him that varun and i referred you to him. he was great.

if you dont have your head decked it wil be a huge mistake.

If your head isn’t warped you dont NEED to deck it, however decking block and head is ALWAYS a good idea if you can shell out the cash.

Caser also bored and decked my block, however my head has not been decked or machined in any way. So we’ll see how she goes

I have a cometic 88mm for my 87mm pistons. Like bing said its fine to go a bit over, they seal in the same spots anyways.

Don’t get a greddy gasket and get an apex if yo ucan afford it, the concensus is that they are by far the best.

I have a 1.2mm, 88dia grex hg for my 87.5 pistons. as the others have said, it is good to get your head done…its off anyway, why not. and if you can, do the block as well.

you can go to the guy sasha and bing said, or try www.ajaxengines.com as another option, that’s where i had all of my machine work done.

What the turn around time for this guy Ceasar to deck a head?

took one day for me
