Head Gasket, Deck the Head again?

So last summer I put an Apex’i metal head gasket on the SR. This was about July/August and I had decked the head. I only drove the car for August and September and barely put any miles on it but did put it through the paces on the track.

Then the head gasket broke, but not in a very critical place. It broke right above the oil pump/front cover, not above the block. I just threw some liquid gasket in there and it held pretty good, just leaking a bit of oil. But now that I’m doing the head gasket again, to replace the broken one, is it necessary to deck the head again?

You will probably just be able to get away with cleaning it with a razor and spraying both sides of the gasket with copper gasket spray. If you didnt have any sealing problems before it should be ok.

Assuming you did not overheat there shouldn’t be much worry.

take a straight edge and check if the block and head are still true.
