ninja 250 great starter bike… however… i personally wouldnt buy one new even though they do hold there value… i know to many people that buy new bikes to learn on and wreck them… i would always suggest buying something used 600 or less for around 3500 then buying a new ninja 250 for 3000 or more…
however i guess to each their own and im sure you will have fun on it
You can’t always suggest a 600 when the weight of the bike comes into play for everyone. Thats exactly whey she didn;t get a 500 or 600. Weight. WIth learning and having an extra 80 to 100 lbs under you to support you WILL run into problems.
i know a girl that is 5 foot 5 120 pounds soaking wet… i taught her to ride on a r6 that had stainless steal lines wheel sprocket exhaust excetra… litterally with in 5 minutes she was riding it around in a parking lot no problem. she dropped it once since i have had her riding it. i can suggest a 600 for people and 9 out of 10 times i will suggest a 600 for people. and here is why
1 a) price a ninja is going to cost around 3500 new and 2600 used
b) price of a 600 is going to be used to learn on 3500 for a learner bike
2 where as you may view the original weight of the bike as a downfall because of you may not feel yourself able to support it it will help you in learning to lean into turns. the wieght of the bike will hold you into the turn better.
i have ridden bikes from 80cc dirtbikes to 1100 gsxr i can have fun on all of them. however i can honestly say that the r6 or the 636ninja i have seen short guys ride tall guys ride short girls ride they advance with the rider and are pretty predictable. a bike is not going to wheelie unless you either a know what you are doing or b are a total dumbass and dont know how to ride. also a bike is not going to go 100 unless the same surcumstances apply.
anyways point of the matter is i can recommend 600s because i know many people that have learned on them… im not trying to trash the ninja 250 because i have ridden one before however…i picked mine up for under 500 dollars. i learned to wheelie on that and all kinda shit. however I PERSONALLY believe a 600 is an ideal sport bike when you have people selling them between 800 for a yzf600 which my buddy just picked up to 2500 or what ever it is for the white honda f3 listed on this site … price wise i just dont see a point in spending 2500 for a 250 when you can spend 2500 for a 600 and have a bike that will progress with you
OK, thanks, but I literally do not have enough leg muscle to HOLD UP a 600 even without being in motion… so the 250 is fine until I get some strength, then I’ll move up.
i also think you made a good choice b/c there’s a rich snaughty girl at RMU that bought a '03 or '04 Gixxer 1000 for her first bike…
surprisingly, she’s still around
and i dunno about the 636… it, along with the other new 600’s, are gettin to the point that theymight not be such great starter bikes… they’re rediculously fast nowadays
like i said ealier … to each their own… im glad to see people out riding… i am just saying i really wouldnt buy a new bike for my first one because you are going to wreck sometime…and i was trying to point out the fact that a new ninja 250 is the same price for a used 600… and a 600 will progress with you…
but anyways yea congrats on the purchase and jus ttry to stay safe
Agreed 100% with the 636 not being a good starter bike.
And like I stated for the other person who missed it. SHE SAT ON ALL THE BIKES. She wasn’t comfortable so she stuck with the 250 to learn. This is not saying that she won;t move up to a 500 by next year, or that new 650 from Kawa and so forth…
i got 3 friends that just started on 636 and all are good to go.
as i said before i understand learning on the ninja 250
what i dont understand is spending 3500 for a new one when you can pick upa used 600 for that much
if you wanted a 250 shop around and find one used for cheap. i could of gotten you a cheap 250 to learn on for like 300 dollars if that
I am very anti-used vehicles… cars, bikes, anything. Never know when something is going to break, and for me, I don’t want something going wrong while I’m out riding at 50 - 60 mph. I’d rather buy new and not have to worry about it.
300 bucks and it was probabnly beat to hell. Sorry but I don’t have to worry about money. I would rather have somthing mechanically new and pay the money for it especially since my wife will be riding it instead of worrying what nutjob owned the privious bike, how it was taken care of and what shit they jerry rigged.
I shopped around and ones that were 5 years old were still selling for 2100. Hell quick was selling his for 1500 when he had it and if I’m not mistaken it was wrecked a few time.
I know the guy who I bought the bike off of and trust him. When we are ready he said they would buy it back and it would only be a few hundred dollar loss. So basically when she is ready for her next bike we’ll have a couple thousand down and ready to go without having to screw with anything finacially.
You say you could have gotten it for me. Well I don’t know you from a hole in the wall. Sorry.
As for your friends, I told you what bikes we were looking at and she sat on. I don’t care what your firends do, or how much you could get a used 600 for IT WAS TOO BIG FOR HER.
I started on a ZX-12R. You don’t see me telling her to start on one of those do you?
Because the depreciation of a few hundred bucks is worth my wife’s life compared to worrying about some idiot that have no idea of how he took take care of a used bike. Especially since a bike has more saftey concerns compared to a car.
Also there is nothing guarenteeing she will be ready to move on. Hell hypothedically, she may not want to ride after she gets her licence and gets out on the road and sees how people really are. In that case I trade the bike in on another one. A 1600 or 2000 vulcan I have been looking at.
thats part of what i was saying. a 250 where as it will grow with you its not going to stick with you forever.
as for not knowing me from a hole in the wall your right you dont. however im not into fucking people ive been fucked before and i dont enjoy it.
also like i said… im glad people are out there getting riding im not trying to start a fight i was just listing my personal opinion everyone has an opinion and im intitled to have one just as you are. if she didnt feel safe on it thats fine start her on something smaller. however… when buying a smaller bike i would not buy new… i would not buy new when buying any bike to start on.
Great again, I can also bet you’re not married, and don’t work in my field where you see people fucked up all the time because of these things. Am I afraid of them? No, but I have owned enough vehicles in my life so far to know how people are with vehicles. If I don’t know “you” or how “you” treat / take care of vehicles I’m not buying a used one off of you for saftey / problem reasons.
As for not knowing you, it was nothing more than that and not a jab at you. You can tell me you don’t like being screwed over all you want because of other situations. I don’t know that because I don’t know you. Also you can’t be so nieve to think that a bike for 300 bucks is going to be mechanically sound with no issues. The issues that you don’t know about are the ones that worry me when its a balancing act on 2 wheels.
your right im not married im 21 years old and have been riding cycles for a number of years. also i have helped teach about a dozen people to ride. if you get a used cycle looked over before purchasing which some people dont have a problem with you doing then you wont get screwed…
anyways like i have said many times to each there own im not looking to fight here i was simply stating my opinions
