i was wondering if any knows about scratching/mixing. It’s something i’ve been lookin to pick up as a hobby. what would be a good turntable to do this on.
all depends on how much loot your tryin to spend???
you definately need direct drive…don’t even waste your time with belt-driven.
let me know what your trying to spend & i can help you out.
i have stanton direct drive tables & mixer.
if your gonna scratch…you’ll probably want a straight tone arm instead of a bent arm …some DJ’s prefer one over the other…but for scratching the straight arm holds up better
i see a lot of technique turn tables used for that and they seem realatively affordable on ebay. they are direct drive.
awww showtime and cutty sittin in a tree
tech 12’s are the staple…
are they the best…its debateable.
newer technology has other companies making faster/stronger tables but the tech are always a good choice.
they are just pricy…looking @ like 400-500 each.
you can probably get a set with a mixer for around $1K
personally unless you got cash to dump…id get something cheaper thats comparable…espically since your just starting out & its jut a hobbie.
I have stanton STR8-80s…they are basically the same as the tech12’s…but maybe a tad weaker but has a few extra gadgets built it like wider pitch control, quick reverse, etc…
as long as you stick with direct drive…& go with Technics, Stanton, Newmark
denon & Vestax are ok to but not as popular.
also don’t get the bottom of the line direct drive they sell get a model or 2 up.
usually the base model direct drive is not that strong.
check here…they sometimes have good deal & combo packs you can buy…i got my stuff in a combo pack & then sold the mixer & got a better one.

there is a lot of newer stuff that came out since i bought mine about 3yrs ago.
one other thing…personally i’d buy new instead of used unless your buying from a friend or they are mad cheap…cause they could be beat to hell
tech 1200s are sweet but cost mad loot
i know someone wanting to sell an extra set…
check out the movie/doc “scratch” its badass
and download lots of dj z-trip
i need a scratching for dummies book.
u know what did it? i was watchin "Juice’ last night. i just wanna pick it up for fun cause i like messing around with music, playing my dad’s vox or messing with some records, its all cool to me.
its all about practice…
books, DVD’s, titorials…don’t help that much…you gotta just get on the wheels & practice.
mixing just takes a good ear & hand/ear coordination…scratching is a whole other animal…
the documentary SCRATCH is a sweet DVD… :thanks-starbucks:
ya i more want to learn the scratchin rather than the mixing.
what about special needles and slip covers? i found a site and i’m learning about this shit as i type

since its just you two now maybe Personal Message each other :dunno:
Scratch was good, I was a little disappointed in the “scratch all the way live” dvd. I have a couple of the “return of the dj” cds, I think like 1,2 and 4. 1 is by far the best.
was that the one that
z trip, jazzy jay, xecutioners, mixmaster mike did in concert?
cause that was the best one ever
yeah that’s it. I wasn’t real impressed. I only watched it once and it just did nothing for me. I thought the segments were a little short, just when I was getting in to it it would move on to the next dj. I’ll give it another shot. Maybe I just went in with too high of expectations. It did kind of make me want to start tossing some stickers up though.
that was cool in the extras
Other than “black friends” this is about the first thing you two have ever had in common.
