I have a d16a6 head. Has a slightly bigger cam the the d15. Looking for $80 for it.
you got first hand experience?
ill give u my 96 D16 head for Free. but it needs to be Taken appart, and Cleaned BADLY. lots of carbon buildup
but using a D16 head, you need a D16 timing belt, D16 headstuds, and possibly a D16 head gasket. i might have the studs
Timing will be off by a half tooth, you need use a different cam gear. Using the D15 cam gear and setting it off by one tooth would work (keyway in y7/y8 cams are offset by a half tooth). Theres no reason NOT to use a z6/y8 head gasket, MLS vs Graphite = no brainer. You only need different head bolts for yours because its a y7/y8 style. Different bolt lengths. If you use a d16a6/z6 head you don’t need different bolts.
You shouldn’t need a different belt, the tensioner will make up for any tiny bit of deck height. If you use your original cam gear, you should be good. Just dont set the timing “straight up”. Make it 1 tooth off. I can’t remember if its advanced or retarded (because I am retarded.).
Your compression will go up a bit too.
If you use a d16a6/z6 head, you can use a y7/y8 cam gear to fix the timing… then install it straight up.
OMG OVERLOAD.
yea. i had to go through all that with mine. its an OBD2 D16 with a D15 head on it. had to switch the gear and belt and gasket and IM and everything.
