Looking to relocate a Residential AC unit, who to go to?

I have a friend who is going to let me have a Residential AC unit for fairly cheap. It’s a Mr. slim unit by Mitsubishi that uses the wall mount fan inside. What I need is someone who can get the new lines hooked up at my house. I would like to buy it, but if it’s not worth it, I won’t do it. I’d rather not try to attempt to hook up the new gas/liquid lines considering I know nothing about refrigerant and I’m pretty sure it’s illegal.

Anyways, does anyone here do this type of work or know someone who does?

Has moved lines for me before.

Dod your friend disconnect his unit himself?

usually you seal off the connections to prevent moisture from getting inside. Moisture is bad in a refrigeration system. Also it’s illegal to vent the refrigerants so did he have a professional remove his system?

i do AC for a living.

Sorry guys, I bailed on this deal. He was going to give me a great deal, but after looking into the new lines that I needed and how much new refrigerant was going to cost, I decided it wasn’t worth it. I also to saw that I needed to have someone licensed to install the new lines.

I know on these units, you can have the refrigerant brought back inside the unit, but I wasn’t comfortable attempting that myself. Couldn’t really find anyone who wanted to mess with a used AC unit, for a reasonable price.

You can pump the unit down so the refrigerant charge is in the condenser. The lineset would still need to be pressure tested and evacuated once hooked back up.

Why would you need a new lineset? They weren’t going to sell the old lineset with it?

They were, but it was far too short. I found a 50’ online for like $180 for both lines. I would need to put the unit behind my house and then run the line along the side of the house and into the living room.

I did see that you could pump it down. I would have been adding 30-40’ of new line so I would have to add refrig and have someone pressure test it. I got quotes anywhere from 400-800 for someone to come out and do that which seemed high to me, but it is what it is. I decided it would be $1k all said and done and the unit sells new for $1,200 installed.
