Looking at lowering my final drive ratio on my GS300 FROM 3.92 TO 3.26
Pros
save on gas
higher top end speed
Cons
slower acceleration
The reason why I’m considering this option is because gas mileage is already bad as it is, and going 2jz-GTE will only make it worse once I start modding it even more. Would there be a significant difference going lower with a high hp turbo car?
I’ve read around on the GS300 forums that some ppl do it because of traction issues and going to a lower gear helps with line times, shrugs
whats up bud no luck on the shop yet. but im doing some more research for u myself.
these gs`s are pigs on gas for real lol… i get 600kms to a tank on mine but it cost 75bucks to fill up, n i didnt do my swap yet.after thhe swap i expect to get 500k max with granny driving…
thats a huge jump… lowering ur diff gearing that much will make ur fuel economy worse unless u do 95% hwy driving. . it will also make the car super slow on acceleration as the turbo trannies are only 4speed. the only pro is a high top speed which you wont be able to use here on our canada highways. cons terrible for off-the-line VIP smokage, some drifting and track lol
I read on the forums that with the 3.26 gearing, it holds gears longer.
Which also means less time shifting and for drifting or circuit, i will be able to hold off longer till having to shift up.
That’s what I was thinking about…or I should just stick with the 3.92 gearing huh? Just worried I will get even worse mileage. I get around 550ish on a full tank, 75L. Never ran it to the light, so I can’t be 100% sure.
it will hold the gear longer which will suck on acceleration.for example instead of 0-60k in 1st gear, 60-110k in 2nd it will then be more like 0-80k in 1st 80-120k in 2nd and so on.
i think the aristo and tt supra diff gearing is a little lower than our NA diffs(somewhere in the 3.73 area) and they should bolt up to ur car.
i dont care about going 300kms anymore so i will keep my stock diff gearing… the acceleration is wicked (better than aristo`s and supras) with it which is what we need since were driving boats.
you got it!!! you guys with the second gen`s got a slightly lower diff ratio cause you got a closer ratio 5speed auto trans… i wish i could build that 5speed auto to hold like 650whp reliably.i would sooo prefer to have the 5speed auto than the shity aristo/supra 4speed! im actually researching that right now…
yes it will bolt up since the blocks are physically the same. problem is it cant hold as much power as the tt trans, thats why guys dont bother. even if we were to build our NA trans it is still weaker than a built tt trans because of the internals… next problem is the tt ecus (aristos, supras)were designed for 4 upshifts not 5.
You can get around to doing it in ur 2nd gen if you did a NA-T that way you keep all ur electronics the same including ecu`s but then you would be limited to power on ur stock trans to around 350whp or 550MAX if you got ur 5speed auto trans fully built…
Otherwise for a 1st/2nd gen WITH the 2jswap it can be done if we were to buy a PCS (Powertrain Control unit) it’s about $900 with the wiring harness and gives full control over shift harshness, shift points, etc you can even add in paddle shifters. However that’s an expensive route and we will be limited to around 550whp on a fully built NA 5speed auto trans… so here we go again its not worth it unless you would be content with >350-550whp and trust me thats really not that much of a fast car considering their weight so THATS A NO NO FOR ME lol i plan on keeping my gs at 650whp on pump n meth all day everyday so i might have to live with the built 4speed auto…
Maybe its because its 5 am so im not reading things right but you said you are going to be drifting and tracking a 4 speed auto??? Better put some oil coolers on that bitch or get a proper shift kit otherwise ur up shit creek with no paddle. Again not trying to be a dick just clearing things up.
