That was my first immediate thought as well. But, since the grille lifts with the hood, it’s not just some flimsy piece clipped into the hood, since it’s designed to withstand owners opening the hood by holding the grille. It’s actually secured to the hood via 9mm studs and bolts which all corroded and froze together a long time ago. I went to remove the first one and it immediately snapped the stud. Rather than deal with a grille flapping around forever, I said fuck it and had fun with tape.
