“Project House” is definitely next on the to do list. I have some good ideas rolling around in my head for the garage setup. The house itself doesn’t need anything besides some paint for the deck and some TLC for the shrubs.
A few weeks back, before going into storage.
getting used to the new garage…
and away
Although knowing me it will spend more time on jackstands than it will under a cover
I am cam shopping.
Nearly where I want to be with the garage and house so I figured I’d start thinking about the winter maintenance for this car.
The plan started with cleaning up the cooling system since the single junkyard fan was running all the time, and things would start to get hot when hooning in parking lots on the limiter for extended periods of time. I’d like to go to a dual fan setup with a nice shroud - two smaller fans will also be thinner and afford me more room in the bay. I also want to paint and install the new bumpers, and since the front end will be mostly apart for that, I figured I might as well remove the whole front end to delete the old AUX fan and other things blocking airflow.
Since the front end will be off, I figured I’d clean up some other wiring issues like my alternator power wire (which is very close to the engine mount) and the starter signal wire, which is not ideal.
And since the front end is off with cooling system drained, it’s too easy NOT to do a cam swap while in there. I am looking at offerings from Tick.
Don’t go with something huge
you should be turbo shopping. lol
I was originally looking at a cheap used Comp 232/238 115LSA but after some research it looks like its a bit too radical for a heavy bitch of a car like mine. By the time I also buy the associated pushrods and springs I’m up there anyways, so I’d like to go with a package that includes everything in one go.
I am looking at the Tick Street Heat Stage 2 - 231/238 | .61x”/.58x” | LSA113+3. Got dat lope.
This is true, but I’m not ready for that investment yet. Honestly I’m also looking to see what this can do NA with bolt ons. Also looking to revise the exhaust since it’s very truckish right now (we will see if I can grab any gains from that also). I know you mentioned you want to retune this bitch…I’ll take you up on that, but let me change all the fluids, do some maintenance, and slap the cam in. Tune after that will make more sense.
Pshhtt pshhhttttttt noises are sweet.
If you do a cam you might have to revisit your header/manifold setup
Also what gears are you rolling with?
3.62s now. Others suggested I move to steeper gears (4.10 is an option) but it cruises so nicely now that I won’t change it.
I am not going to fuck with longtubes. Granted I would see good gains with them but the manifolds barely fit as is and I don’t see the point in wasting any time building a set as I’d like to turbo this one day with truck manifolds.
The post manifold setup currently leaves much to be desired as I’m sure the BMW cats and the factory y pipe are bottlenecks. The y-pipe is a joke - it’s ovalized for clearance and crushes down to like 2.5" at the junction.
If you’re going to rock 3.62 and a semi restrictive exhaust you might be better off looking towards slightly smaller cams.
What I’m looking for is more midrange and low end than anything else.
See here if you want to discuss more as well, seems like good input over there.
What I meant to say about the cats and y-pipe is that I plan on ditching them this winter and doing something bigger, maybe 3.5" single or some reasonable size duals, and I’d like to factor that into cam selection
If it was me I would just do something like a 228/228(or any of the other cams in the 224-230 range) and if you want lope get it with a 112 LSA and keep the idle RPM low when it gets tuned.
Turbo.
Stock cam.
Siq.
So jelly of this swap. Many hots
You live down the street from me…I am on William
Cool stuff. I take that way home every day. Occasionally I take the BMW out to blow out the cobwebs and spin some tires between Autumn Park and Glenhollow. There’s one house not far from the school that has an old 90s SHO and a big boat in the driveway, I wonder if it’s someone on here.
I am further east…I live on the 55mph part…good place for some shakedown runs
I think there are like 3 SHOs and a Mustang at that boat house.
I’ll be sure to do some heaters in front of your place when it’s warm again
You will know it when you see all the other marks haha
We put a little 224/224 in my buddies ls1 ta with some good heads and its a torque monster. 150 shot and she is quick.
