I have been playing around with badging in my spare time. Bought a 2.0T badge in A4 fitment on ebay, and a 3.6 badge off some SUV (Q7?) on ebay as well. The intention was to use the 6 from the latter and add it in place of the 2 on the former to get a nice 6.0 that was in “Audi Font”. However, the 3.6 ended up being physically larger by a few mm so it won’t work. I stopped by the junkyard a few days back and grabbed the “6” off an A6 that was there in the hopes that it was the smaller “car” size, but again no dice, too big. I might just go with the 560i even though I really want a specific 6.0L badge. Ideally I would love to find Audi emblems, either a 6 in the smaller font or a 0 in the larger.
Love the Estoril but if I ever buy one (and there’s no guarantee that this isn’t just a random desire) it HAS to be a coupe and 5 speed. Preferably Alpine White, with vaders.
I’m just about wrapping up my mini garage remodel and ready to get back into automotive projects. One of the things on the list is redoing my exhaust. I’d like to do a cat delete and get rid of the small diameter OEM BMW pipes that run back to the rear axle as well as revise the location of my cutout since it drones my brains out. What’s a reasonable size to run from the manifolds back? I was thinking 2.5" duals, 3" duals might be overkill but I have to consider the possibility of going turbo one day.
2.5" is fine for NA. But I guess 3" you could never outgrow. Odds are if you went single turbo you would have to redo a lot of it anyhow. Twins on the otherhand would setup nice to dual 3".
Why not 2.5 off the headers, Y to 3 inch center section then Y around the rear diff in 2.5 ? It will flow anything you need for n/a or turbo. If you do turbo you can just change the first Y out for a full 3" Y
Yours sounds great - you’re running a bit more displacement and compression as compared to my setup though, so that makes sense that you went up to 4".
Besides vertical clearance (which will be tough seeing as the chassis is pretty low) there is actually a lot of room before the twin tanks, so dual 3" would be fine there. However the tanks neck down right ahead of the rear diff, which sucks for space but lends itself well to a location for an x-pipe (which naturally necks in). After the x-pipe I’ll continue to dual exhaust with the same size. Do they make 2.75" mandrel bent sections in stainless?

also, Mike (and JD): I am hoping some revisions in the tune help the motor rev a bit more quickly and come back down to idle quicker as well. Looks like people have had luck doing this by playing with throttle follower in the tune, but that’s about the extent of what I know. I’m running an 18lb flywheel for what it’s worth, but feel like there’s a lot more room for improvement. Freeing up intake and exhaust won’t hurt either.
