A Blaine resident managed to accumulate three DUI charges in one night after an evening drive down Sweet Road resulted in two crashed cars and a wounded forehead.
54-year-old Tommy Ryser was booked into Whatcom County jail Tuesday on suspicion of three counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, said Sgt. Larry Flynn with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s office.
At about 8 p.m. on Monday September 13, sheriff’s deputies received a call of a single-car accident involving an abandoned pickup truck and a utility pole in the 3300 block of Sweet Road.
While investigating that accident, deputies received a call about another crash also on Sweet Road, Flynn said.
Investigation into the second crash revealed a red Volkswagen Golf that had also been abandoned after the driver had hit a guardrail. Both the truck and the Volkswagen Golf were registered to the same family, Flynn said.
That’s when Flynn said Ryser arrived in his privately owned tow truck. Flynn said deputies questioned Ryser, who was bleeding from a cut on his forehead and appeared to be intoxicated.
The interview with Ryser revealed the whole story. Flynn said Ryser allegedly crashed his truck and then walked to his home to retrieve his wife’s Golf, which he also allegedly crashed. Deputies caught up with Ryser as he was returning to the second crash scene with his tow truck to retrieve his wife’s car.
