Looks like Bob Lutz is retiring after 47 years in the automotive industry at 78 years old.
From the 3 series at BMW to the Viper at Dodge, Bob has his footprint on the industry. He has been a senior exec at 4 major car companies (GM and Ford being the other 2).
He was a jet fighter pilot in the 50’s and reportedly still does fly over of the GM proving grounds for fun (has a Aero Vodochody L-39 and a Czechoslovakian jet fighter trainer).
He never pulls a punch and tells it how he see it, from calling global warming “a total crock of shit” to blaming the most recent GM recall on a “partially owned by Toyota” supplier.
Not a bad career and definitely a guy I would like to sit and have a pop with.
My Uncle Jim knows Bob well and said he was a major driving force for the entire industry, not just the one’s he worked for. Great guy and the car business would not be the same without him.
He fly’s a P-51 Mustang as well as maintaining it himself. Wow.
