Google and Will Smith just need to give it up.
Google and Will Smith just need to give it up.
^^
aaaaah… that’s great. so perfect.
the thing that really ginds my gears is that google paid 3.2 BILLION for a company that makes a thermostat.
Grinds your gears?
At least they make something
It’s not like they paid that much for some company that makes games for social media.
They also make smoke detectors if it makes you feel better.
The whole house technology integration market is only going to grow
I got one cheap when it first launch from an HVAC buddy (his cost)
I’m sure it has saved me that by now.
This. We already have thermostats, lighting, smokes, locks, cameras…Makes sense. Plus google has more money and technology than imaginable. 3.2 Billion is chump change.
great, now Google wants to know how hot/cold I keep my house? Next thing you know they’re going to start advertising me heat fans on my gmail page.
GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!!
sure but if you think about how companies are valued this implies profits and sales that are beyond insane. For 3 billion you could replicate what nest does and many other things. I understand they are buying it for the people, but still, why not just buy the people out?
I also doubt that nest really saves anything over a well programmed modern $50 thermostat. It might even cost more if it adapts up where most people would just ignore and deal with a bit colder in many scenarios.
Without getting all tinfoil hat it’s kind of scary the amount of data google has about you.
For those of you worried about google using Nest to figure out when you’re home and when you’re not if you use Android, Google+ or Google Maps they probably already have that info.
And most of it people willingly give up.
They have a CO2 detector nest,
Why would that be networked?
“Oh I got a text! Our house is slowly filling with CO” insted of it just beeping like fucking crazy
I didn’t buy it, my brother in law did. Anyway here is the link
I’d much rather have a networked smoke/co detector than thermostat. Getting a txt at work that my house is full of smoke or CO would be really useful information.
If I gave you $1 billion dollars to make a networked smoke / co detector and it has to also look cool, could you do it?
ok, there we go, a benefit to me that wast immediately obvious
Hell yeah I could, but patent law prevents it. I actually looked into patenting a smoke detector that would use RF signals to trigger all the detectors in your house if one detected smoke over 10 years ago and found out the idea was already patented.
I bet you could buy rights to use the patent with some of that billion
You’re missing the larger picture im 100% sure Nest has other products they’re looking to release and integrate into the product family.
and you’re missing the point about what $3 billion can buy you. this is not chump change.
No way…
It’s pretty amazing how you’re smarter than the entire Google acquisition team
You should call them and tell them how much they can buy with 3 billion hopefully they will promote you to supreme leader for your outside of the box thinking.
Google has the cash to make this stuff happen
Dropbox is valued at 8 billion for comparison
Square is something like 5 billion
Snapchat thinks its worth more than 3 billion
Beyond all that Nest is similar to Apple reinventing products making them pretty and user friendly which isn’t exactly how google rolls but I would assume this is a direction Google would like to go.
