MEMBERS ONLY: War of the Wheels vs. SON240SX (56k?)

MOVED TO PUBLIC CHAT!!!

enjoy the pics and write up folks.

As many of you know, several of us SON240sx persona were involved in the filming of War of the Wheels EP9.

the 240sx episode

first off, let me say that it has been said time and time again on the set by cast and crew:

“This has been the best WOTW episode to date”

the reason is not only because the 240sx is a very popular car or because we will be drifting the F$*K out of these beasts.

the reasons why this episode will be the best and is supposed to be used in the promotional features for the show has a great deal to do with the cast.

typically the cars on the episode wind up very similar, in fact some have been literally identical. this episode will not be like that.

the teams chose VERY DIFFERENT routes to go with their chassis.

the easiest way to explain it would be:

POWER vs. SUSPENSION

red team = power

Chris St. John
Mike Kent
Andrew (fireman??
Paul (EHR)

blue team = suspension

Bing Wong
Brian (Farmer)
Chris Migallo (Mr. Migs)
Dave P (the Lab)

for my own personal shamless plug i have to admit that MOST of the parts used for these builds were supplied by Bings.ca. the reason for that is not because i wanted to showcase my parts, but because no one else in Ontario or all of Canada and even the US could supply these items on time for the right price.

several other SON240SX members supplied parts.

Andrew (iquabob) and Bob ™ helped a great deal when it was determined that ROCKETZ.net is rn by a bunch of flunkies and that they couldnt get the body kits to the set in time even though they are in BC and they were SHIPPED 10 days prior to the beginning of filming.

Jason (S14_240sx) and Jesse (jjwilks) also helped a great deal by delivering or making parts available to the teams in a huge hurry.

there was a mad scramble when the host (andrew comrie) revealed on camera that the body kits would not be coming and that the cars needed to be in for paint in less than 14 hours.

both teams got kits, but my team didnt get the kit we had planned for. my team members assumed that i was responsible for us not getting the kit we wanted (the kit that the other team wound up getting) and so there was a great deal of antimosity for several hours on set and in front of the cameras which will be shown during the episode. it turned into quite the little drama.

in the end both cars turned out pretty sick, which is the reason why the episode will be so hot.

Chris St. John proved he is nearly peerless when it comes to building a 240sx. He hand picked a very nice SR20 and made it run spectacularly. he even custom fabricated several parts of the car (exhuast namely) in a VERY SHORT period of time to ensure that his car was top-notch.

basically he swapped a KA-E for an SR20 and had it running PERFECTLY in less than 3 days while also contributing to the rest of the build in a variety of ways.

Our team’s build (blue team) focused on suspension.

I installed Z brakes, Hot Bits coilovers, battle version TC rods, had inner tie rods, new FLCA’s, full Bings.ca multi-link and subframe collars with the help of Mr. Migs. Farmer took care of all the audio, he and dave did a great deal of work to the interior and dave was the one responsible for the Illest of Ill paint schemes.

here are pictures ladies…

please note that i do not have permission to reveal these images as of yet but i am not sure if i am not allowed to anyways, for that reason this post is members only until i have further notice.

SO many parts never arrived for our team. the budget for each car was $10,000.

our Quaife clutch differential arrived 3 hours before the end so we have to put it in before the drift day. our fluidyne rad came in with 1 hour left so we didnt put it in. we never received a variety of other parts.

in the end it the drift will determine the winner.

the jist of the battle:

coilovers/z-brakes/full multi-link/Quaife differential

vs.

SR / coilovers

there is such a stark contrast between the two cars it is amazing. two very different looks and designs. that is why this episode will be so interesting.

i hope you all have enjoyed this thread, post away.

i hope to make this public when i have confirmation that it is okay for me to release these images. if that is the case this thread will find its way on every 240sx board in the country i hope.

War of the Wheels, episode 9, for Global TV.

to be aired in 2006

Quick someone call the police, someone stole my car and painted it in multiple colours…

I like the BRE-influenced paintjob… very trick.

So what happens with the cars now?

this is fun

e-bay

man bing your teams car looks freakin sweet! its inspiring to say the least.

Wow it looks really exciting? Team Red doesn’t have a differential in there do they? Nice pose in the one pic there Bingy lol. And I can see my exhaust in the first pic hehe. Looks awesome can’t wait to see it.

Who does the drifting? Migs or Bing?..Does Farmer have a few tricks up his sleeve? Other guy? lol sorry other guy.

Whats with the red shift boot?

migs will be the official driver, but i will get to drive it.

the red team welded the diff.

i dont think most people understood why i set the camber that way…

i personally think that the camber on our car was UNREAL!!!

I really enjoyed that! can’t wait for the episode.

Wow, the rims look great now… I’m glad you painted them black.

The green colour looks hot, you can tell its baller in person.

I thought you guys were going to use the GP Kit, either way car looks
great.

The white car is pretty cool, but the GP aero only accentuates the
OMFGYouSunkMyBattleship wheels… It needs spacers badly, other than
that both cars are well done for 3 days work.

considering the other activities we had to do the build was really a 2.5 day build.

i could get into how the other team had advantages and shit but in the end it is all the same.

with some tweaking Chris’s car is the better car in that it will get more at auction and it appeals to a broader market with the SR and the big kit.

personally i prefer our car because it just has a big “FUKK U I’M ROLLIN THROUGH THIS BITCH” look to it, but it badly needs an SR. our engine is really really poo…lol but that was the point i guess.

Are you guys gonna put a SON decal in there somewhere? :dunno:

What was the budget on the cars??

Considering the time and what they were made for, they actually look pretty decent.

When do you go to the track with them???

budget was $10.000 reatail cost on parts and $2.000 on the body

and track day is setto be early in october

farmer

budget was $10k but 40% of our budget never showed up.

the diff came way to late to put in, so did the rad (came in at like 3:00pm, tools-down was 4pm)

the GP kits never showed and we never got our oil cooler or strut bar.

our team was short handed at the body shop too, our body was was in the hospital.

*bing posting from jesse’s comp

personally i like chris’s car overall, if the new owner invests in some oldschool gold/ silver mesh bbs wheels and adjusts the coilovers and rubber accordingly the car will look dangerous, i know its less of a drift style of car but i think it would look like a dirty track car, and with $300 of suspension parts the car can be dialed.

bings car just looks retarded with the rear camber (sorry!), if the rears were pulled and the camber was matched with the pull it would look way way better, im not much of a fan of the green paint, you might also experience some fucked up traction issues with the camber like that, the turn in will be easy but once the car gets off camber you are going to have close to a full 235 tire contact patch and with a sohc and stock clutch its gona be tricky as fuck. reminds me of a hundah show car but thats just my thought. with some more time fine tuning bings car would be more appealing to me.

this is jesse.

negative camber is Baolla!

if you think it looks ghey you must be a fag, that is all i can say.

yes i thikn chris’s car is the better car in that it looks cleaner and the SR makes a huge difference but welded diff is ghey, and you’re still going to need to update all the multi-link and shit anyways.

the way i see it is you throw that SR into our car and its set up nigga.

in order to make the other car top notch you gotta toss in our brakes, suspension, diff and wheels.

btw,

i still cant believe everyone loves the GP kit, it makes me wanna puke a little bit actually.

Totally impressive, I can’t wait to see this episode, and the camber is baller for sure!

awesome job guys

Welded diff is a SMART choice when you’re working on a finite budget.

You get nearly the same end result as a 2 way at a $1200+ dollar savings.

I think the suspension work is good, but the SR w/ welded diff will be able
to drift much better (especially anything the size of shannonville)

I agree.

Plus quaife is queer.
