I was planning on responding to everyone here but it’s too late because she bought a new Tiguan Sport from Basil VW & @Beck yesterday
Price was very competitive, dealership location is close to where she lives and works, vehicle size felt exactly like what she wanted, had all the options she wanted & needed, and the dealership experience was excellent.
I’m definitely biased but it felt like a competitor to the X3 or GLK without the badge premium. And she’s not so pretentious that she needed a BMW or Mercedes.
What’s blown my mind about shopping for this kind of vehicle is just how many options are out there. Every manufacturer has 1,000 different “SUV” type vehicles now and I can’t imagine having the time to really test drive them all to compare.
If you’re mom is willing to give GM a try I can help with my discount FYI.
EDIT: Too late, but here is some good info for domestic guys lol.
The new caddy xt5 is really nice. The high feature V6 Gen 2 is a really solid great performing engine. Cam phasing, DOD, variable oil pump, etc won Wards 10 best engines for 2016. The HFV6 coupled to the 8 speed auto is a really nice combo. Figure a a fully loaded one being about $45K but significantly less with discounts.
Buick has the Envision that is the same platform as the Caddy, but doesn’t get the V6. The Buick gets the newly upgraded 2.0T which is pretty good too if she wants some more power.
You also have the Chevy/GMC twins, the Equinox and Terrain. They are pretty much giving the 2016’s away, which come with the L850 2.5L NA I4 or the HFV6 Gen 1. The standard 4 cylinder is the old L850, which is absolutely bulletproof. Seriously, this might be one of the lowest warranty engines if 185hp is enough for her.
